Let's buy Ahmedinijad a tie
Damn, the guy is president of Iran, but he can't afford a necktie. Think we can help him out?

20. I actually think the dumb shit that comes out of the guy's mouth precludes him being taken seriously
Wavy Gravy would make a better world leader than both Bush AND Ahmadinejad.

So I guess a tie wouldn't help. It certainly doesn't do much for B*sh.

15. It is considered unIslamic to wear a necktie
Muslims are supposed to prey 7(?) or so times a day. You wear what you are wearing (and clean up a bit). When you are wearing a necktie while kneeling and prostrating yourself it hits the ground and you become unclean.

So, Islamic folks don't wear neckties. Same reason why billed caps are avoided.

That said, Islamic folks do wear ties on occasion. But it is a sign of western decadence and very much a no-no for the fundy types.

22. Wow. I wouldn't have thought this shit would sell on DU.
This whole "he's a holocaust denier" or "he wants to wipe out Jews" or "he's against gays" so let's lambast him.

He's a figurehead, not a repository of power. He's politically on unstable ground at home, and he's being demonized by our press, our politicians and all the pundits.

Why? Because he's some terrible Charlie Manson guy? No, he's just a figurehead with a few screwball ideas who happens to be the figurehead of 70 million people.

Those 70 million people have the misfortune of having been born on a patch of oil that a bunch of oil companies covet, and they won't play ball. They also happen to be Israel's bogeyman dujour. So we have to kill a bunch of them until they play ball with oil and are so decimated that the residents of Tel Aviv can sleep at night with the closet door shut. It's really that simple.

And buying into this whole "Ahmedinijad is evil" meme that you're being spoonfed, just like so many Democrats bought into the whole "Saddam has WMDs and could kill us in 45 minutes" thing; it's absurd. Another Middle-Eastern bloodbath is being pimped to you and you are taking the bait.

This shit isn't funny. It's horrible. It's the death of America the Benign and the dawn of America the Terrible.

Make fucking jokes.

25. Right. Everyone who criticizes that fuckwit is shilling for war.
Edited on Tue Sep-25-07 03:39 PM by impeachdubya
Everyone who points out that Holocaust Denial or hanging gays is more than just, er, "screwball ideas" is some kind of a neo-con apologist who is buying "bait" for another "Middle Eastern Bloodbath".

Right. We're all really fucking DUMB for not liking the guy and saying so out loud; unlike the people who want to Peddle that asshole as the next coming of Ghandi or MLK because he happens to criticize Bush.

We keep hearing about how any criticism of Ahmadinejad is invariably tied to 'pimping' for war with Iran, so I challenge you: There's a lot of people here, myself included, who don't like that Fucklenut... find ONE who wants war with Iran. Find ONE FUCKING PERSON on DU who thinks War with Iran would be a good idea.

Really, if we're all so fucking stupid enough to not only get outraged by holocaust denial or pictures of gay kids hanging from a truck (instead of making lame apologies for them) but also be completely incapable of separating said outrage from a desire for another stupid war, LET'S SEE THE EVIDENCE. Let's see the hordes of Ahmadinejad-hatin' DU'ers who also WANT WAR WITH IRAN.

I'll wait.

(230 million) people." So then, he's pure and above all criticism is he?

Okay, then I will no longer criticize George W. Bush. When hell freezes over...

I've seen exactly TWO DUers who are pimping for an attack on Iran. I can despise a cruel dictator (actually, two) and despise the thought of war in either of their countries at the same time.

Heck--I'm even typing and chewing gum!

31. It's the natural gas we covet. Their oil is heavy crude. It's more expensive

to refine. They only have one refinery there and have been importing gas for some time now. Another reason we want their land is so we can route pipelines from the stans through Iran, Iraq then west to the sea. You can see it is a straight shot from the Caspain shore to kirkuk. There's some mountains, but Halliburton will find a nice expensive route for a pipeline.

forgot to add that the Stans have a lot of natural gas.

24. In the remote event humanity survives, future fashon will laugh at neckties - and at
nylon stockings, and at contemporary "business" garb in general. They will look through fashon history with amused wonder at our Corporate Masters throttling themselves in 100 F weather in Washington with ties and suit jackets and encasing themselves in hot nylon from waist to toe. They will wince with sympathy at the multitude of drones forced to follow their Masters in such repressive, impractical, all-weather uncomfortable uniform.

People who do the real work of the world don't, for the most part, wear neck-ties. Health Aides. Nurses. Teachers. Carpenters. Road builders. Farmers.

(none of which has anything to with Iran or Ahmedinijad of course, or what I think about either. I just think one should always take a critical look at the conventional, since it is so often a guise for wielding power - or the aspiration to do so. Or it masks an uncritical deference to power - like the notion that the furniture in the WH somehow deserves the "respect" of closed rather than open shoes.)

30. Neckties are a conspiracy of Corps for $$$.
Edited on Tue Sep-25-07 03:51 PM by Disturbed
These ties have no function & mostly look stupid but people have been brainwashed to believe that one is not serious about "business" unless a tie is part of the outfit. When did this tie business start?
