"At a time when Jews around the world and in New Jersey are celebrating the High Holidays, we are confronted with this ugly symbol of hatred against Jews," said Etzion Neuer, the group's New Jersey regional director. "Obviously, those responsible for this act were determined to deliver a message of hate on a massive scale.

The incident wasn't the first time the cornfield bordered by Hankins Road and South Lane has been defaced. A 130-foot-square swastika was carved in the field in July 1998, and a bigger 600-by-600 foot version of the Nazi symbol was found in a nearby cornfield at South Lane and Hankins Road near the West Windsor border al most a year later. No arrests were ever made.

Each arm of the Nazi symbol is more than 100 metres long, and the entire design covers several acres.
Police say they believe it was cut by hand, probably with a knife or sickle - an effort that would have taken many hours or even days.
The swastika is only visible from the air and it is not clear how long it lay undiscovered. It was spotted by a police helicopter that happened to be flying overhead on Friday.
