4. As one of those that stood out on Michigan Ave.
in front of the Ford Plant, holding a sign, back in 1976, I thank todays UAW Brothers and Sisters. As I remember, we got something like $35 a week. It was tough, but worth it. The retired salute you.

10. wow, what a change from this afternoon
earlier in the day if anyone showed any support for striking workers
the were flamed to a crisp.
Right around five oclock or so the flames stopped and the support started.
Office hours are nine to five.
Laborers dont sit at a desk and look at DU on company time.

I sure am glad you guys came home from work, it was getting ugly in here.

15. Why should the workers take the hit for bad decisions by management!
Power to ya. Perhaps if the workers wage increases were incremental to the CEO's pay. I think that's equitable.

On the picket lines, GM workers get support

As the UAW strike that shut down General Motors Corp. plants nationwide continued into its second day, picketers at metro Detroit plants received support from passersby, businesses and other autoworkers.

At GM’s Pontiac Metal Center, where 1,200 hourly workers are employed in metal fabricating, 10 picketers at the Walton Street entrance waved and cheered as a steady stream of motorists honked and flashed high fives.<snip>

As the picketers suffered in muggy 85-degree heat, a van from the Coney Spot Café a few blocks down on Walton pulled up and began handing out free chili dogs
and bottles of ice cold water.

“We’re out here supporting these guys because it doesn’t look like GM is,” said café owner Kevin Kejbou. “Some of these guys from the plant come into my place to eat, and we want them to know we’re with them.”

Picketer April Gist, taking a water bottle, said, “Now that’s solidarity!”<snip>
We haven’t had any issues,” said Mark Hicks, 50, a union representative for Local 909. “We expect it to stay that way.”

Hicks said autoworkers from Chrysler and Ford showed their support by dropping off food, water and pizza during the day.

“There’s a lot of support,” said Hicks, who has worked for GM for 31 years. Chrysler has a truck assembly plant across 9 Mile from the GM facility.<snip>
