2. The Ayatollah or the President?
The president is mostly a figure head. The real power in Iran is the Ayatollah, and he lets the president act like he's in charge.

20. No he denies they exist too.
Standing next to the unicorn and bigfoot, of course he denies a lot of stuff. In his country, denial means it really, really doesn't exist - almost like Bush's America. Accept the religous right still can't kill people they deem deviants, well not legally (not to say they don't).

It really worries me that two insane men run two countries a very evil man (guess) wants to have a war between so he can make huge amounts of money.

6. Why don't you delve deeper into his words...they could be from a Republican!
Republicans also insist there are no homosexuals in the United States...we're all hetero, except for those that want to "choose" to have sex with the same gender. Is Mahmoud saying anything different? Maybe denial doesn't translate well from Iranian. But it's the same fucking thing.

19. I agree with you, sort of.
I don't think it's a republican only thing though. I've heard many religious democrats spew the same sort of non-sense, and on the flip I've seen non-religious republicans who think such beliefs are backward. Of course there are far more ignorant republicans thought... I just don't like the idea of over simplifying everything, to me, that seems just as ignorant.

being taped drinking alcohol and not wearing head scarves at a party, which is all forbidden. That is where I saw the disconnect. I believe since they do not know any gays personally, that they think they do not exist.

If Ahmadinejad believes they are unclean and an abomination, he wants to convey that he is in control and has gotten rid of them, or that all Iranians are good Muslims who would never stoop to such a degrading practice.

Remember, Iran is made up of Shias who are even more conservative about sexuality than sunni muslims.

32. The Thing Is
I don't believe there is a choice factor in whether you're gay or not, so you may be conservative in your leanings (the log cabin Republicans) but that won't determine your sexuality. Factors such as hiding your sexuality and government and societal repression come into play, but they do for the very reason that someone has been born gay.

It's easy to rile people up and get them to not be concerned about bombing goat-fuckers. Just like multi-millionaire Osama living in a cave. If you believe Osama lives in a cave and Iranians are just goat-fuckers, than you probably deserve the war we're about to get.

Personally, I consider it totally shameful and completely ignorant to play into these bullshit contrived stereotypes. After all, I call got called out by a DUer for calling someone a douche bag today. That's offensive, can't offend those douchers, or douche makers or whatever the fuck the beef was. But hey...goat-fuckers and cave dwellers...now there's some enlightened thinking. We can bomb those mofos!

30. This is the way the far-right religious extremists in this country want the U.S. to look.
No gay people - they'd "take care" of that "phenomenon." No single women with jobs. No women owning property or going out in public without being all covered up. No school for girls. Barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen working for one's father and then one's husband.

Listen to the talk. It's all the same among religious extremists. Doesn't matter if the religion is Islam or Christianity or Judaism. Extremism is extremism.

Iran: Persian Gay And Lesbian Activist Urges Tolerance

"May 17, 2007 -- Growing up in Iran was not easy for Arsham Parsi. Early in his childhood, he recognized that he was "different." When he realized during his teenage years that he was attracted to other men, his life became even more complicated.

"I grew up with religious and Islamic ideas," Parsi says. "'Well,' I thought, 'I'm a sinner.' I was trying to become a good person by practicing religious rites, including by praying a lot and fasting. Becoming good was one of my main concerns, and because of that, I entered a very difficult period. I decided to get to know myself. Now I'm glad that I know myself. I have my beliefs, I believe in my God, and I have my sexual orientation."

Gay and lesbian groups are marking International Day against Homophobia today, celebrating the day 17 years ago that the World Health Organization (WHO) removed homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses. Since then, the situation for homosexuals has improved in many parts of the world."

http://www.rferl.org/featuresarticle/2007/05/086f28c5-91d7-4d24-98f3-dfb9ceb3c836.html

As someone pointed out above the government is trying to kill them, but they most certainly exist.

58. It's a miracle of nature.
Isn't that something?

Just like when a Chicago alderwoman years ago said that there are no gays ("sissies") in the black community. I think that was a fairly common view. I imagine it still is.

Some need to be informed about the concept of "the down low." Or maybe drink an extra cup of coffee in the morning to get the processes moving.

Or maybe just finally knock off the lying, self-deluded, nutjobber-styled denial.
