Anti-war activist shares views on Iraq, joins protest

By Sherry Anne Rubiano / Arizona Republic

Dr. Dahlia Wasfi has traveled the country for three years sharing eyewitness accounts of life in Iraq after the Iraq war. The availability of electricity and potable water is scarce. There are fewer jobs, and rampant death and destruction. Her family lives in the desert heat without air conditioning or electric fans.

Wasfi, 35, shared her experiences with West Valley residents last weekend as part of a campaign against the U.S. presence in Iraq.

The Wheels of Justice Bus Tour brought Wasfi and another anti-war activist, David Johnson, to Valley churches, schools and organizations. The tour's goal is to provide firsthand experiences of life in occupied countries such as Iraq.

"We hope to offer the side we don't see in mainstream media on what life is under occupation," Wasfi said.

On Saturday, Wasfi joined the West Valley chapter of Grandmothers for Peace in an anti-war demonstration at 99th Avenue and Bell Road in Sun City.
