The Democrats Could Learn A Lot From Larry Craig's Balls

Senator Craig reinforces the reasons why the Republicans won the week and why the Democrats and, in turn, the American people lost.

........Senator Craig has brazenly defied his party and has returned to the senate to help filibuster and obstruct every important piece of legislation the Democrats introduce.

Meanwhile, the Democrats, who we specifically elected to end the occupation of Iraq and, to a lesser extent, check the power of the president, allowed the Republicans to filibuster, 1) an amendment that would've restored habeas corpus, one of our most cherished constitutional rights; and 2) an amendment that would've supported the troops by giving them more family time between tours.

.............

But instead of a bold and aggressive Democratic Party empowered by the support of legions of Americans as well as a disgraced and unpopular GOP, we get this bungled and botched week of wet-bread politics. I know we're not supposed to eat our own, but screw that. The Democrats embarrassed, disappointed and pissed me off this week. Have I made myself clear on that yet?

And if that wasn't bad enough, on the campaign front, we have a Democratic presidential frontrunner who released a health care plan this week that's nothing more than a veiled GOP health care plan -- with an extra step or two between your tax dollars and gigantically profitable insurance companies. I'm sure if you asked a policy staffer (in private) why the plan is so fucking awful, they might admit to something like, "This is a plan that will actually pass (because of lobbyist support and more bipartisan votes)." More acquiescing and less aggressive leadership. Nice.

2. Your subject line reminds of the promo
for the first Two and a Half Men of the Season when the Sheen character pulls open the front of his pants and asks his brother if this looks infected.

Yes, never admit you are wrong, never say no, regardless if you are at the wheel, like Thelma and Louise at the end of their movie. Be a man, be a conservative, be a republican, bbbbooooyahhh

3. I don't know why he came back
since his "no" votes were not really needed this week, may his "aye" will be needed next, I don't know. But I agree, seeing him on te floor, and obviously not exactly a fan, I muttered to myself that the guy has guts (or is nuts, it rhymes after all, or of course both).

6. Sad but true.
I've never seen a more gutless bunch of losers than the Democrats. If there were any viable liberal/progressive alternative I would vote for them in a heartbeat. I'm even thinking seriously about saying to hell with it and voting green party in 2008. I'm that disgusted.

7. The Democrats seem to have a learning disabilty regarding:
PR WARS WIN. The GOP came in out of the Wildernes in 94
because Newt Gingrich(Love HIM or hateHim) engineered a
plan which embraced Television as the Medium for Winning
Elections but more importantly GOVERNING.

Newt understood the American Electorate. Win the hearts
and minds of TV Viewers---CNN,MSNBC, FOX, ABC. NBC amd CBS.
Use local stations to your advantage. Use Radio and TV Talk
Shows. Gingrich worked. He had training programs for Candidates
so that very early on they could make Television Appearances
and be credible. They were steeped in Conservative Thought
so they are prepared at a moments notice to answer a reporter's
question.

During the Clinton Administration--they demanded to be on TV
and given the time to oppose any Clinton proposal. There
was hardly a day that GOP was not covered. They knew if they
were to have "Leadership Credentials" they had to be on TV
making their case. They knew that if they went on TV and made
the case they could have ordinary people call in an support
their ideas. 1994 was their Rout.

Today if you monitor all the TV Channels--guess who is on
Television making their and sellin g their ideas. Yes, the
GOP. As always the Democrats are AWOL.

PR is necessary. I contend that if the Democrats had had
Democrats on every channel. First, the Petrus situation would
never have gotten out of control. That could have been squelched.
Webb's bill could have been past. It lost and now the GOP
is talking about what a wonderful idea it is.

They have to learn they cannot trust the GOP. This BIPARTISON
Dribble that comes out of the Media is just that. The Gop
is out to win, if they see a way to do the Dems in, they will
take it. They are playing Hardball Politics and the Dems are
not even playing.

Have not seen any Democrats on TV. Yes, the Candidates but
they do not count. They are not there to promote Congress,
they are there to promote their own election.

Talk Show Hosts beg for guests. Do not let the Dems get away
with saying they cannot get on. 4 times this week I have heard
Democrats declined to appear. How does that sound to the public?

I am a loyal Democrat but I care enough about our party to give
fair warning. Some Leadership and organization required.

8. oh they didn't allow the republicans to filibuster. They didn't even have to filibuster.
They just threatened to, and the dems gave up immediately. I think a filibuster about habeus would have been much better than what actually happened....nothing.
