It happens all the time. And I've noticed that the shorts are starting to circle. Not because they CARE if the American people are being tortured with cattle prods, but because this stock is DOOMED! or question their authority. It's abuse and it's sickening.

Tasers should only be used in life-threatening events---as a substitute

How can we get these things outlawed, or at least get severe restrictions
on their use?

I think the only thing that will ameliorate this is lawsuits. Let the
bad cops know that if you use a taser, you'd better have a life-threatening
situation on your hands, or you will be sued seven ways to Sunday.

I had a car-repair man recently tell me that State Farm is a good company
now--because they don't use cheap parts to repair cars that have been in
accidents. The repair-shop owner told me that State Farm used to do this
but they were sued in a class-action suit and lost millions. So now, they
do the right thing--because the people sued and forced the issue. It's the
same with this barbaric process. People need to sue. This girl in the video
wsa tortured and I hope to God she's found a ruthless litigator who will take
this bastard cop to task.

...because these devices are going to get so much negative press.

With video of these horrendous taser incidents and police abuse--there
will be numerous lawsuits. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw class-action
lawsuits against the company. The devices have killed people.

Then again, we have sadistic cowards running the country, and they tend to
set the tone for the amount of perversion, thus increasing the demand for
these pocket torture devices.

I think the citizens will have the last word on this one. Lawsuits will
severely restrict their use or make them illegal, as the should be.

Lynchburg Police Officer T. C. Clemmons carries a taser with him on daily patrols.


"You never when the situation will arise where you need to take somebody into custody," said Clemmons.


If that person doesn't want to go, a taser might be the next step. Soon every officer on Lynchburg's police force will carry one.


Head of the Special Operations Unit, Captian Brandon Zuidema, said, "It's not typically a situation of okay we'll stand here and wait for it to get here and then deploy. You need it when you need it."


"Rather than having to go hands on with them and get into a physical confrontation, half to physically fight with them...we can use a less lethal option," said Lt. Mike Staley.


Zuidema said in a lot of cases the taser makes more sense than even pepper spray.


"I would spray you but I'm also gonna spray people around you and people downwind from you. Whereas, when I apply the taser, it's a very accurate weapon, it has that laser sighting system and I'm gonna apply it to you only," he said.


"It doesn't have any long-lasting affects. As soon as the weapon has cycled it's five seconds the person is back," said Staley.


Right now nearly 40 officers carry tasers. Each of them has felt it's shock.


"It totally incapacitates you. I mean, that's what it does," said Clemmons.


With the lights out, you see the full affect. Officer Clemmons says that's enough to make some people think twice.


"A lot of times the suspect will just give up and go voluntarily without having to go hands on with them," he said.


It will take at least a year for to get a taser to every officer. Money from property seized in drug arrests will help pay for them. Each taser is $700.

I'm unfamiliar with the book, but ...well, where to begin? It became clear that many, many truly ugly and frightening things were occurring within our govt ...well, for quite some time, sure.

I started to become 'politically aware' in the late 80s. in extreme situations like to subdue a violent thug on PCP. The problem is lack of proper training and discipline on the police. They got themselves conditioned to think if it's "non lethal" than it's ok to use in any circumstance. The proper term used for these weapons though is "less lethal" meaning it still has potential to be fatal.

I think tasers are fundamentally changing the way police force deal with the public. The fact that they don't leave lasting bruises or serious wounds leads to their overuse. The fact is we've armed our police force with torture devices, and they are clearly too tempted to overuse them, and I think this would happen even with proper training. I think they need to be banned now and this needs to be nipped in the bud before other, even scarier control devices come along. It is changing our police force and I fear this is only the beginning. Back when they first started showing up I thought they were a bad idea, even before the scary stories started coming out.

There are many good and decent police officers out there. Unfortunately, some are sadistic cowards. These officers will misuse the tasers--firing them off when someone says something they don't like--or abusing this girl repeatedly as shown in this video.

With the proliferation of video cameras on cell phones and other devices, I suspect that we'll see a plethora of video that exposes the abuse of these devices. Ensuing law suits will eventually turn these devices into relics.

I will probably short this stock. I am guessing that we will see increased sales in the short run. However, litigation--due to abuse by abusive cops and others--will make it difficult for police depts to justify their use when lawsuits become commonplace.

I agree that there are appropriate uses for tasers. A man I used to work with became out of control during a dispute with an officer. The officer felt threatened and he shot this man dead. If a taser had been implemented, this man would have been subdued and he would be alive today. Cops have difficult jobs. Tasers are needed at times during life-threatening situations. However, irresponsible, reckless cops will ensure the extinction of these devices in the long run.

Tasers have killed some people as well. That does not bode well. As others are seriously injured or killed as a result of tasers, we'll see more video, Congressional hearings, lawsuits and eventual extinction.

This device will soon be a has been and unless this company can ensure that their product is only used by the majority of cops who are decent and professional--they're doomed as well.

A great stock to short, if you can determine when peak value is.

This product will be everywhere in a couple of years. Yes in the last couple of days TASR has been all over the networks on TV for wrong reasons, but people know what it can do and it works. Yes, that Ohio officer should never work another day in his life as a police officer, that was just brutal abuse. But it was not the TASER that did it, it was the cop. He obviously hadn't been trained properly and took his rage out on the poor lady, doesn't matter what she did, unless she had a gun, but that was not the case. He will be suspended with out pay until they investigate. Again, TASR does work great and it was not the TASER that did the damage and kept TASING her it was the crooked, bad cop.
