If the Senate wants to condemn things instead of passing useful legislation, here are some ideas
Edited on Fri Sep-21-07 07:10 AM by berni_mccoy
They should start with this list of dispicable things to condemn (which they haven't yet):

1. The Bush Administration for ignoring obvious signs and warnings and their own agencies warnings about the attacks on 9/11
2. The Bush Administration for taking us to war on false intel (whereas it is now known they ignored good intel and made up false intel)
3. The Bush Administration for terrorizing the public with Weapons Of Mass Destruction
4. Bush and Cheney for outing a CIA operative and her entire operation for political vengeance; the covert mission was to track nuclear weapons by-the-way
5. The Bush Administration for firing Generals who told them they needed more than 400,000 troops to go to Iraq and who told them they needed more equipment, time and planning
6. The Bush Administration for sending troops in without proper protection or gear
7. The Bush Administration for the death of nearly 4000 troops, nearly 1,000,000 Iraqi civilians for no good reason
8. George Bush himself for refusing the audience of the Mother of a fallen soldier who waited on his doorstep while he was on vacation
9. George Bush himself for staying on vacation and continuing to fund-raise while New Orleans drowned; there were no National Gaurd available because they were all in Iraq and FEMA was crippled under the incompetent leadership of a Bush Crony. But hey, Blackwater got to show off their new military vehicles
10. The Bush Administration for calling speakers of truth and critics of their piss-poor administration "aiders and abetters of the enemy" -- gee, that sounds a lot worse than "Betray Us"
11. The Bush Administration for taking away habeas corpus and destroying the Constitution, right-by-right.
12. George Bush himself for calling the Constitution a "God damned piece of paper."
13. The GOP for all their corruption (how many GOP Senators and Congressmen have been caught and resigned in disgrace) and distortion of power

1. I'm shocked! You actually want Congress - *THIS CONGRESS* - to DO something constructive?
Edited on Fri Sep-21-07 07:10 AM by AndyA
You want them to uphold their oath of office?

Put the American people first?

Look after our rights and interests?

Do their jobs?

What are they supposed to do about the lobbyists who don't want this? They have to prioritize, you know... :eyes:

:sarcasm:

6. Hah, fat chance
This is the Senate that voted on an amendment advising Dubya not to pardon Libby and after Republicans pitched a fit with an admendment of their own (packed with condemnations of Bill Clinton, natch), Reid folded and expunged the earlier vote from the record. Their timorous criticism of the Boy King is gone, never happened.

7. And remind me again what happened to Russ Feingold's bill to censure Bush and Cheney?
Oh, yes, now I remember, it's never been brought up for a vote.

Apparently, Move On's ad is more egregious than the crimes of Bush and Cheney.

8. Doesn't the majority party control what gets to the floor for a vote?
I don't understand why Reid wasted a day on this. That, and the decision (by *unanamous* consent) to require 60 votes to pass things -rather than forcing pubs to filibuster- are fueling most of my frustration with the events of the last few days.

I don't see the advantages. Does the majority still control the calendar? Can anyone explain this?

9. You Are Right
You are right on all the things you listed. I especially agree with you on number six. Bush should be called out for not providing our soldiers with the proper equipment to go to war with. The Democrats really need to bring this up more. Bush tries to talk about supporting out troops, but it was Bush that was willing to veto legislation, that would give out troops the things they needed, just because that legislation put his tax cuts in jeporady. To me that means that Bush cares more about supporting rich people and making them comfortable than he does the troops.
