Relax, the "Betray-US" Meme did the Job it was Meant to

What will people remember about the good General now? How much free publicity did they/will get out of this?

It's also good to see which Dems rise to good old fashioned (shall we say Abbie Hoffman-style) provocation...

Good job, Move On!

Time to relax, folks and enjoy the dust-up!:toast:

3. hi, I just think it's funny that we should be so 'shocked' that our least progressive
side with a bogus issue that's being framed as a 'support the troops' issue...

I find that richly ironic...

5. Exactly, we should stop the handwringing now and put pressure on these 'moderate right' Dems
to support the party on the issues that count...

What you are suggesting is the political equivalent of blocking MSNBC on your TV because they were mean to Britney Spears over the VMA flop.

Don't forget KO is also on the channel!

7. It was a mistake for Bush to respond to the Ad
The public knows Bush is a lying fuck and for him to respond to it personally takes the focus off Petreaus and puts it back on Bush. People are left with the impression that this lying fuck head who got us into this is attacking this ad so there must be something to it.

They are over playing there hand on this just like the Terri Schiavo fiasco. Bush should remember to stay out of the public eye and leave selling the war to guys like Petraeus. Once Bush's face hits the screen the people know it's a fucking lie!

10. I was at the Thursday night throwdown last night. And I have
never been in the group when it was so politically charged. Remember I work in a red industry in a red state.

They were, almost to a man, disgusted with the senate for the "re-so-lu-shun." At a time when they voted against the troops (the Webb bill,) the Senate voted to censure MoveOn? One guy started singing Louie, Loui-i.

11. wrong.
Well, it worked for MoveOn, but it fucking sucked all the air out of important debates and votes. It's been 11 days now of all the ad, all the time.

12. Good point. Moveon benefited big time - publicity, donations, members.
We will benefit long term, but short run, the brouhaha raised by the RW probably helped them hold onto a few wavering senators on the antiwar votes. So it may (who knows for sure!) have cost us a legislative win, but even that is a long term win for us because it will make the GOP senators even more vulnerable at election time.

13. Only blogs and true believers give a shit about this dumb controversy.
Most Americans probably never saw the ad and probably have no idea what all the fuss is about anyway. How many Americans know who Petraeus is? How many know what MoveOn is?

This controversy underscores what a useless institution the Senate is when it's gridlocked like this. Totally useless! They have nothing better to do as representatives of the people than scold an organization for exercising its First Amendment rights. I doubt this plays all that well with most Americans, if it plays at all. It just looks like the usual irrelevant gas-spewing of the ruling class.
