O'Reilly Leaving His Radio Show -YEAH!
http://radioequalizer.blogspot.com/

Now let me premise that this guy that runs this site is a neo-conall the way. A real bootlicking right-winger. But nonetheless he usually know sthe inside scoop of radio talk-host stuff.

He reports that O'Reilly has signed a few month contract extension for his synidcated radio program. But it ends in December and will most likely dump the show.

I can tell you since I work in radio and see ratings...well there is not much to see. Actually his ratings are horrible in radio. My guess is he is dumping the low-rated radio program to try to save his TV show which is declining in ratings. A successful radio talk show hosts does not leave radio for any reason. The pay is great and it isn't that hard.

This is great news. O'Reilly is in real trouble mode!

2. Then why isn't he talking about the North American Union? More interestingly,
if he thought it was real, surely he'd go through the roof, what with his talk against illegal immigration and other issues?

And, true, radio allows great pay. There's this morning show I listen to and it's amusing what they have to say. Especially about the "high taxes" in the county I live, even though calling their government center has their people talking about how their tax rates are amongst the lowest in the state. Oh dear, who's more likely to be wrong, even if I agree with him once in a while - official sources or a sappy radio DJ who probably thinks Drudge is more accurate than God?

8. Here's a lesson in how radio works
Alright. Radio stations try to do good in programming so when the Arbitron ratings release every 3 months they perform well. Advertisers either buy advertising direct (they deal with the radio station directly) or larger advertisers use ad agencies that place the ads for the company. The very big ad spenders like Budweiser, General Motor, Toyota, Geico, Pepsi, Fast-food, etc. all use ad agencies to buy their radio advertising.

The biggest time periods where radio prorams get money for commercials is primarily in the morning (morning drive) and afternoons (afternoon drive.) This is due to reaching peple in their to and from work. Most ad agencies buy an age demo called Adults 25-54 year olds. Don't ask why it is just the way it is. So when they look at ratings really the only demographic that matters is Adults 25-54 during mornings, middays and afternoons. They really don't care about evevings, overnights, etc. because radio listening then is much lower.

Well Billo is on many radio stations. I believe about 400. Imprssive you say? Not really when you consider the top 11 radio markets by population in the US. Here's a list and how he performs.

NYC on WOR-AM from 1pm - 3pm ranked #22. That means there are 21 radio station during Bill's time slot that perform better then he does. Ad agencies usually will only buy the top 5 or 6 radio stations.

LA he is on KABC-AM from 9am - 11am. He is ranked #26.

Chicago he is on WCKG-FM from 2AM - 4AM (yawn.) Ranked #17. (Almost zero listeners.)

Philly he is on WPHT-AM 12am - 2am. (Yawn again.) Ranked 10th.

Dallas he is on KLIF-AM from 11am - 1pm. Ranked #29.

Houston he is on KPRC-AM from 12am to 2am ranked #19.

Detroit he is on from 11pm to 1am ranked 21st.

Boston he is WTKK-FM on 7pm to 9pm ranked #5.

San Fran he is on KNEW 1P to 3p ranked #34.

DC I couldn't find him on anywhere. he's not on the 3 big talkers WJFK-FM, WMAL-AM or WTNT-AM.

Atlanta he is on a radio station that doesn't eve show in the ratings.
OK, so quick analysis. So he is on 400 radio stations. Many carry his show outside of time periods where advertisers spend very low dollars for the commercials. Second, when his show does air during more desirable time periods he is very low in the rankings. Third many stations carry only smallparts of his show like in Akron, OH only 2 hours on a Saturday night.

I would not say that his radio show is much successful. They can't be making much money withit that is for sure.
