There's one thing that's happened in DU today that's REALLY impressed me.
All those posts - more than I can count - whose message has consisted of "Fuck the Senate, let's rally to the support of MoveOn.org"

That's the way to get it done. That's the way to go toe-to-toe with the rightwingers. Stand your ground and not give an inch. Send the message that if the rightwingers (and cowardly Democratic Senators) want to fuck with an honorable organization, one that is in some ways a sister organization to DU, we of the righteous will answer the call.

Those of you who have made those posts, and taken those actions, and have provided that information, are the real Americans. Not the rightwing jerkoffs who are celebrating the Punk Senate's disgraceful action of today.

You know who you are, and I salute you for being intelligent and energetic enough to realize that support of MoveOn is perhaps the best mechanism we've had in a long time to stand up and say: "This is enough."

1. After I cursed my head off, I received a petition in the mail from Moveon and I signed it.
In the message box, I thanked both of my Senators for voting no on the Cronyn Amendment and told them that I was signing the petition in solidarity with Moveon. My Senators are Clinton and Schumer.

2. hope you're right, but it remains to be seen just how far the M$M is willing
to carry right wing water on this

will the outrage over the forever war outweigh the fascist's ploy of relying, as always, on marketing techniques to pull the wool over the eyes of the average 'news' consumer?

5. Has the Senate ever taken the time to vote on an ad or anything similar to this?
I'm new to this story (in class all day) and still a bit stunned that the Senate held this bullshit vote. I'm stuck with Dole and Burr, but MoveOn is absolutely getting another donation...

6. Would it have been possible to amend the move-on motion
to also include a comdemnation of those who wore bandaids to the Repub convention to dishonor a man who won Navy medals as well as a comdenation of the ads that showed a Vietnam hero morphing into Osama?

I am a die hard Dem but I don't like it when the Dem Senators let the Repubs define what's honorable and what isn't. The Repubs are phony bullies and the Dems need to answer an attack with a counterattack. Nobody likes wimps.

We do have a majority, after all. There is no way in hell any Democrat should vote to condemn MoveOn.org, but not the swiftboaters, the purple band-aid crowd, etc.

12. Yes, "We of the righteous." We, who oppose pointless wars. We, who oppose
the denial of basic human rights to our fellow citizens, just because they happen to be homosexual instead of heterosexual.

We, who believe that govermnent should act for the greater good. We, who believe that all Americans should be treated equally in the eyes of the law. We, who believe that our Government should use the tax dollars that some of us can afford to pay, to help those less fortunate than we are.

We, who believe that our Government should not abandon an entire city of its own people (That would be New Orleans).

Any of those positions too righteous for you? If so, so be it.

22. I'm with you on all the issues, Redstone
but I am really uncomfortable with classifying any group of people as "the righteous".

I'm funny about language; picky as hell, as a matter of fact. Rhetoric and its uses is something I've studied, and certain rhetoric just makes me uncomfortable.

36. If you don't believe your position is righteous, where is the motivation to defend it?
Righteousness may be an emotionally laden word because of its connection with charismatic Christian preaching, but Redstone is absolutely correct.

The cause of peace is righteous.
The cause of justice is righteous.
The cause of civil liberty is righteous.
The cause of environmental preservation is righteous.

I am not going to shrink from that word because some right-winger thinks illegal invasions, racist judicial rulings, warrantless wiretapping and elimination of corporate responsibility with regard to pollution are righteous.

I care and work to enrich humanity and improve our planet precisely because I believe my stance is morally justifiable and virtuous. The very definition of righteous.

to tread carefully on putting one up on a pedestal, it seems every time we do they get shot down, my point being to put all one's egg in one basket makes it easier for them to be crushed and leave you without even one.
