21. I was saying to myself "They won't get it. 'You're Beautiful' went to #1 so
it will get it. The Grammies like to reward sales, but then I thought "What if they do?" Song of the Year is a SONGWRITERS award, so it makes sense. Will be interesting to see if they get RECORD of the Year, which is more of a sales award.

47. Same here. I usually detest C&W (with a few exceptions) and bought two DC Albums.
Kept one ("Home") and gave one as Xmas gift ("Not Ready To Make Nice" album).

I like the 'Home' album because it showcases their range nicely. (I love bluegrass.)

55. Me neither, and I'll tell you exactly why.
The Dixie Chicks don't do the exaggerated hick accent like Reba, but I am glad they let the world know what they think of Bush.

I can't stand singers who whine, or maybe they're singing with a clothespin on their nose and I can't see it. Whatever.

I also hate the negative tone of so many of their songs (my dog died, my pickup got stolen, I'm getting drunk, my girlfriend left me, etc.... )

And I hate the pedal steel guitar which is whiny too. If they had any talent they'd be doing a bit of bottleneck guitar instead.

Last good country I heard was Ringo doing Carl Perkins songs, Chet Atkins and Roy Clark, not these fake cowboys. Early George Harrison licks were clean, and sorta country, and no distortion on them. I don't like distorted guitars either. It was cool when the Beatles first did it, now it's a cliche.

You said it, Hissyspit. Get your ass over to the sandbox Reba and that Toby clown. I used to listen to country once in awhile, but not since they shunned the heroic Chicks. I bought their CD to support them and totally admire their talent and courage. They are Americans to be proud of.

Congrats Chicks!!

87. They're Morons.
Ask Willie Nelson what HIS political views are.

Those flash-in-the-pans don't deserve to carry Willie's guitar pick.

And did you guys see what Ludacris did last night? He graciously *thanked* Bill O'Lielly as he accepted his Grammy for Best Rap Artist. As you well know, Mr. Falafel hates Ludacris and says hateful and untrue things about him all of the time.

54. That's because they are mightily outclassed by the Dixie Chicks...
in just about every conceivable way. And talent is just the beginning.

They can't even be as "cowboy tough" as the Dixie Chicks, because the Dixie Chicks have repeatedly shown for years that they have more courage in their little fingers then these supermarket cowboys have in their whole doughy bodies.

53. You can go to www.itunes.com and join. 99 cents a song.
Or napster.com where you pay a monthly fee. You have to download the software and that will take some time.

If you google for free downloads, you might find some site where you can download it for free, but I am suspicious of those sites as far as spyware, etc.

96. it IS a great album
i bought it on principle just to support them and i really, really like the album. there are only a couple of songs that i'm not that fond of. after listening to this album, i went out and bought another of theirs. there are some elements of country in it but overall i think it's more a rock or pop album.

"taking the long way" really opened me up to their talent...they're great and i'm happy as hell that they swept their categories.

HELP US SEND A MESSAGE

The South is critically important to the future success of the Democratic Party. The party ignored this region in the 2004 election to its detriment.

The South, in particular Tennessee may make the difference in winning back the Senate in 2006.

We hope to expand our campaign in 2006 throughout the state of Tennessee to support Harold Ford, Jr’s campaign for the U.S. Senate. We intend to keep growing in 2008 and expand our branding efforts into other states in the South and Midwest with other initiatives that will focus the unique strengths of our creative community toward reviving a broader appreciation of the Democratic brand.

What are our unique strengths? We are the producers, songwriters, musicians, managers, agents, promoters, publicists, video directors and producers, editors, journalists, and countless others that built and maintained the careers of some of Americas biggest stars including Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Brooks & Dunn, Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, The Dixie Chicks, and basically the entire country music industry.

We know how to open the doors in the hearts of working class people that have been closed to the message of the Democratic Party. We maintain the proud tradition of Country Music, and all music that speaks to the lives of ordinary working people.

Our mission is critically important to the national party for the following reasons:

1. Our state could make the difference in winning the Senate back.
2. We must rehabilitate the Democratic brand in the South.
3. We can harness the unique communication skills of the Nashville community.

Our efforts are dependent on funding. Our efforts also depend on you.
Please donate to support our work. We are simultaneously seeking funding from outside sources for our mission, but small individual donations will be put to good use. In return we will give you the best of our creative community that has been recording its political soul over the last two years. For donations in excess of $20, we will let you download our catalogue of songs (which you can stream for free on our front page and at our blog www.mrdtalk.com ). But please don’t limit the size of your donation. Consider a larger donation if you are able.

We assure you that your money will be wisely and carefully spent.

We also need your help to recruit others. Talk to your friends and neighbors, use the TELL A FRIEND feature. If you see someone with a Kerry or other liberal bumpersticker, say howdy to them and ask them to check the site out and support us.

Think of us as an independent communications arm of The Democratic Party. Our mission is to develop and create new messages to advance progressive and Democratic ideals, and to fight back not with attack ads, but with compelling ideas that stir emotions and will move the American public AND The Democratic Party leadership to have a better understanding of what it really means to be a Democrat.

We believe if we are persistent with a positive message about ideas, it will ultimately be more valuable than a campaign focused on a single candidate’s personality.
We believe in the long haul. Our motto is USE YOUR VOICE, and we use it.

If you donate, you help support a great mission, and you get to download the music that has been created by our community to speak to the issues facing our nation.

84. Good for them
...but seriously....one of the only problems I have with this board is its willingness to paint people from the South or country folks as stupid, racist, war mongering jerks. Many times I see blatant stereotypes hoisted upon these people while at the same time trying to remain pious about progressiveism. Sort of kills your arguement when you are condesending to a large group of people that are as diverse in opinion and belief as any other group.

So my point....now that we have a country hero, will the bias and vitriol pointed at country or Southern folk diminish?

I doubt it.

Anyway...how many of you went to the Chick's shows or bought the album? I did... but I am a country boy.

86. Go To The YouTube Link For The Video
It's under an all-out Freeper assault. One person has actually stated that "the Dixie Chicks should be put to death for high treason for bashing *."

Oh, to live in a Freeper's world. Where writing a song is treason, and speaking the truth is treason, but lying our troops into a war for oil isn't.

90. That whole album
is fantastic. I have been a fan of the Chicks for a long time now (plus the live concert I have ever seen was by them) . It is as close to an old fashioned folk song/protest/message album as you will see these days. It certainly is better than the lets-drop-a-bomb-and-kick-ass-or-you-are-not-american theme that seems all too prevalent these days. I used to listen to country when it was still clever and entertaining and not mindlessly jingoistic. Its nice to see truly talented artists get their just rewards!!:applause:

94. Agreed...
This is one of the only albums I bought last year and only because I was trying to support the Chicks. I even went to see their documentary.

I have to say that I love this album. The lyrics are smart and poignant, the melodies are catchy, and the bridge in "Baby Hold On" gets me every single time I hear it.

The documentary is real, funny, and touching. It's a fanastic look at what artists go through before they hit the stage, and I loved it.

When they announced the Dixie Chicks' first win I was jumping up and down. My enthusiasm for their success did not dwindle as the night went on.

And the "heh-heh" remark was classic.

I admire these women very very much--each has their own strength but together they are a 1,000 fold stronger--true sisters.

Went into Amazon to buy a copy. Should have bought it a long time ago, but have enjoyed this great body of work without purchasing it. Now, I will own it and support this trio monetarily.
