As Mother Jones first reported last week, Alexis Debat, the terrorism expert and former ABC News consultant who published alleged interviews with the likes of Barack Obama that he had not in fact conducted, has claimed to associates over the past year to have received "a large chunk of money" from the Pentagon for a study concerning radical Islam. I have since been told that Debat was preparing a study on Islamic warfare, and that his client, albeit indirectly, was Andrew Marshall, head of the Pentagon's Office of Net Assessment, a kind of in-house think tank.

2. I have run into more than my share of scammers and self promoters

through history and many of them were welded into always, always, always puffing up their images, to themselves and others.
Even when they have done some good, it's just not good enough and they have to embroider, as well as filling in blank spaces with purely imaginary adventures to add to their credibility on any subject.
Everybody has, no doubt, a few of those acquaintances in their files; the ones who "used to be" the best pool player in three counties and will name-drop until they figure they've either established their bona-fides or strained your credulity beyond patience.

They are to be pitied and avoided, until they happen to actually fall into a position of influence, as this character apparently has, and then they need to be disciplined, sidelined, or as should any other instinctive republican, be encouraged to run on the republican ticket to fill a seat in Idaho.
