Cavuto: "Trust me, if we wanted just oil, we'd position all our troops around just oil facilities."

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,297117,00.html

By Neil Cavuto

<snip>

But this one risks gaining greater currency because of who's saying it: Alan Greenspan.

To be fair, he's not saying the president went to war because of oil, but in the bigger picture, it didn't hurt that we removed Saddam to protect oil.

Trust me, if we wanted just oil, we'd position all our troops around just oil facilities.

We didn't. We haven't. And we aren't.

It's the same reason we don't accept oil from Iran. We could. And God knows energy prices for us would be lower if we did.

But we don't.

Oil ministry an untouched building in ravaged Baghdad

April 16 2003, 4:26 PM

Since US forces rolled into central Baghdad a week ago, one of the sole public buildings untouched by looters has been Iraq's massive oil ministry, which is under round-the-clock surveillance by troops.

The imposing building in the Al-Mustarisiya quarter is guarded by around 50 US tanks which block every entrance, while sharpshooters are positioned on the roof and in the windows.

The curious onlooker is clearly unwelcome. Any motorist who drifts within a few metres of the main entrance is told to leave immediately.

Baghdad residents have complained that US troops should do more to protect against the looters, most of them Shi'ite Muslims repressed by Saddam Hussein's Sunni-dominated regime who live in the vast slum known as Saddam City on the northern outskirts.

But while museums, banks, hotels and libraries have been ransacked, the oil ministry remains secure.

10. I've seen the map of the proposed locations for the permanent bases, and they are in proximity to
oil fields, facilities, and pipelines. There was a helluva discussion about them when it was revealed. How could Cavuto miss it so bad?

11. He's right
Of course since the very beginning of the invasion we needed to station those troops at the major weapons depots, to prevent looting of those. Just imagine what would have happened if we used those troops to protect the oil facilities instead!

28. How the hell did he get his job?!
He has a whiny attitude and he's not even remotely pleasant to look at! I thought it was a rule that talking heads have to at least have a pleasant speaking voice. He has a frog voice and he has a mild lisp. Aren't talking heads supposed to be at least somewhat attractive? He's ugly! Now, I don't have a problem with ugly people on TV, but Cavuto is unattractive in every imaginable way. It boggles my mind how he got his plum job on TV. He's so unlikeable!

18. BartCop readers already KNOW that most of our troops are guarding oil wells.
A while back, BartCop published a map of Iraq that showed where the concentrations of US military are and where the centers of oil production are located.

It is no surprise to most of us that these locations are all but identical. Our troops are carefully situated to protect what's important about Iraq -- OIL.

23. That jackass is actually right
Although unintentionally, this war wasn't all about oil. But more so O.I.L. Oil companies don't like war because their bread and butter is put in jeapordy. What if their oil fields were destroyed during the fighting, just like in the original gulf war. Plus we could have easily payed for all that oil with much less money than has been spent on the war so far.

24. Hey Cavuto, it's all about APPEARANCES (like everything else Bush does)
Claim Iraq is a threat because they have WMDs and were involved in 9-11 so you have cover for stealing a country's oil. What, there are no WMDs, well we came to give you Iraqis FREEDOM, now shut up and be grateful. And show your gratitude by letting us steal your oil.

26. The troops positioned around the highly-explosive oil facilities while defending the cash cow?
I'd like to hear his rationalization of where the billions went that were intended to re-build Iraq. With all the U.S. taxpayers' billions given to this administration by those who are supposed to be representing us, we should be seeing evidence of state-of-the-art living facilities having been constructed. Care to comment, Faux "News"?

if the spigots are turned off then they have a higher profit margin.
