Monday, September 17, 2007 -- Did you see George all choked up? In his surreal TV talk on Thursday, he got all emotional over the killing by Al Qaeda of Sheik Abu Risha, the leader of the new Sunni alliance with the US against the insurgents in Anbar Province, Iraq.

Bush shook Abu Risha's hand two weeks ago for the cameras. Bush can shake his hand again, but not the rest of him:
Abu Risha was blown away just hours before Bush was to go on the air to praise his new friend.

Here's what you need to know that NPR won't tell you.

1. Sheik Abu Risha wasn't a sheik.
2. He wasn't killed by Al Qaeda.
3. The new alliance with former insurgents in Anbar is as fake as the sheik - and a murderous deceit.

Why?........... Abu Risha was the PR hook used to sell the "success" of the surge.

The sheik wasn't a sheik. He was a fake. While proclaiming to Rick that he was "the leader of all the Iraqi tribes," Abu lead no one. But for a reported sum in the millions in cash for so-called, "reconstruction contracts," Abu Risha was willing to say he was Napoleon and Julius Caesar and do the hand-shakie thing with Bush on camera.

On Thursday, Bush said Abu Risha was killed, "fighting Al Qaeda" -
and the White House issued a statement that the sheik was "killed by al Qaeda."

Remember all of those "Tribal Leaders" that we recruited to fight "Al-Qaeda"? They were supposedly wiped out by "Al-Qaeda" attacks within 2 weeks of us announcing the alliance.

12. Five Anbar leaders were killed in June, 2007

at a meeting we held. They represented cooperation between Sunni and Shia, and the progress we want from Maliki. But Risha was not among them. In fact, A WAPO article from June 11th, "Tribal Coalition in Anbar Said to Be Crumbling" has the following remark about Risha:

Ali Hatem Ali Suleiman, a leader of the Dulaim confederation said Risha was a "traitor" who "sells his beliefs, his religion and his people for money."

We have also learned from the NYTs that the compromise on the oil law fell apart, and that one of the problems was that the Sunni party in the negotiations, Tawafiq, didn't want the Kurds negotiating contracts independently. The article says that "Many of the Sunnis who supported the original deal have also pulled out in recent months."

Is it possible that the substitution of 5 actual sheikhs with 1 fake one has anything to do with the oil law and who gets the contracts?

I had some problems with the download and had to restart it quite a bit; hopefully it's just my browser/security settings.

and even after all these years :shrug:

My girlfriend asked me if I was surprise. I said, "No, I'm not surprised that they would use a fake sheik, I'm surprised that when I heard he was a fake I felt mild amazement that they could do it again!" I also felt surprised that I was mildly surprised that they did it again and that the M$M bought it hook, line and sinker.

One would think that they'd learn that it would be exposed. Then I realized that they don't care. They know it moves the propoganda.

It's the first story that sticks. The refutations and exposures of the deceit never catches up to the lie...

Why should I be surprised at all? I guess it's my native optimism -- I keep wanting the nightmare to stop.
