Craig Arrest Makes MSP Bathroom Tourist Attraction

"Where's the bathroom?"

That's the question camera-toting tourists in Minneapolis are asking as they visit the men's room where U.S. Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, was arrested in a sex sting.

"It's become a tourist attraction," said Karen Evans, information specialist at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. "People are taking pictures."

Just 15 minutes into her shift at the airport on Friday, Evans said she had been asked directions to the new tourist attraction four times. Other airport workers field the same question.

"It's by the Lottery shop, right next to the shoeshine shop," said newsstand worker Abdalla Said, adding he gets the question daily.

At the Royal Zino Shoeshine shop, the owner's grandson, Royal Zino, said he might have been working the day Craig was arrested.

"I might've actually been here. Me and my buddy were watching them doing a sting," he told the Idaho Statesman.

Zino said he gets to watch tourists now.

"People have been going inside, taking pictures of the stall, taking pictures outside the bathroom door -- man, it's been crazy," he said.

I'm sure a local photographer could make up one of those life-size pictures of Larry. Stand that sucker up outside the door, and charge $3.00 for an Official MSP Airport Bathroom Tourist Authority picture of you "shaking hands" with him. (If you want a picture of him shaking something else, we have a room for taking that picture set up in the back. $10.00. Cash, no checks.)

Zino could cash in on this, of course. Offer guided tours. If that cuts into the main business too much, record a tape like those "self-guided tour" ones at some museums and nature walks.

Sell little packets of "Official MSP Airport Toilet Paper" ("Just like what Larry Craig found on the floor!"). One roll should net several thousand percent return, if packaged correctly.

MSP Airport might be persuaded to paint lines on the floor of the terminal so that people could follow "The Official Larry Craig Trail" right to the bathroom. Zino's self-guided tour tapes could point out features of interest along the way.

Postcards, posters, and Commemorative Guides will, of course, be made available. As will balloons, cute little hats, and cotton candy and sock puppets for the kids.

Can the MSP Airport declare a "Larry Craig Day," or is that only the province is the governing bodies? This could turn into a complete yearly festival if they handle it right!

I'm thinking that much hilarity will ensue...
