The best part of the march yesterday....
the number of young people there. It was the first march I've been to where we "old protesters" were outnumbered by young people, what a great feeling it was!
The pro-war people were a little scary. One had a bullhorn yelling, "give soap a chance". What a joke, really there was not one "dirty hippie" there! How stupid. Many signs saying, "victory in Iraq". What is victory in Iraq? We invaded the country for god's sake. We were walking back to Union Station, and some biker screamed at us, "look at the Commie girls". It was a compliment to me, just to be called a girl!!
There were a few young students on our bus who are Socialists, who had set-up a tent and were giving out pamphlets. They were surrounded by a group of Hell's Angels, who were holding flags attached to billy clubs. They kept threatening them and would not leave right away even after the police came. Hell's Angels is such an upstanding group of thugs themselves. The young men were visibly shaken.
Seeing all of the Veteran's protesting the Iraq invasion is amazing. Many of the people arrested yesterday were Iraqi War Veterans. Also there were WWII, Korean and Vietnam Veterans. It is a blessing to see them there.

1. The one point that the march
proved to be a fact: Media bias to corporate warmongers. Yes this has been
speculated on, argued about, polls taken, etc. When every MSM news outlet gave
a march of protest, of this magnatude, only '15 seconds of fame' with fudged
attendance numbers. With low shots showing only a few protestors, no images
like on the traffic cams - with the throng stretched to out of camera range -
a couple of thousand total protestors is what NBC said was there. :eyes:

This amounted to the backhand return slap from Dumbya telling the nation that
it was his war and regardless of what the people want, he is going to do what
he wants.

5. It's such bullshit...
at least they are finally recognizing the marches. When we first started going to DC about 4 years ago, only C-Span would be there.

8. No kidding...
...they take small low shots, or just film the earliest part of a march, in order to make it look smaller than it is. And this is the same media who gave us the carefully-crafted photos when Saddam's statue was toppled, making a small crowd led by Americans and surrounded by tanks look like a big crowd of Iraqis spontaneously toppling the statue.

Yes, the Fourth Estate has fallen to historic lows. And that is really saying a lot.

2. Thanks so much for this encouraging report
We had a small march here and we also commented that we were thrilled to see so many young people come join us. They will make the difference in our struggle.

12. no, I don't think you understand,
the HAs don't care about anything but themselves, the "club". It's like hearing that union people showed up to kick ass on protesters in the late 60s. The beaters were paid to do so, they weren't union personnel. It was one of the ways to cause dissension in the anti war movement then. Jeeeez, we haven't learned anything since.

10. I wonder if it's a matter of, the longer this goes on, the younger
the crowd gets -- because I noticed many more younger people yesterday here than I did our first time out.

11. See? I told you guys that the demos had a lot of young people!!
Many of the people arrested yesterday were Iraqi War Veterans.

That's why I didn't go but instead, donated my $55 bus fair to the IVAW
(Iraq Veterans Against War) and to a new Move On advertisment!

Thank you for going and thank you for relaying what actually happened in DC!!

102 Anti-War Demonstrators arrested!!
