CIA Analysts: Over 50% Of Bush's Iraq War Justifications Untrue
Los Angeles Times | February 10, 2007 05:32 PM

As the Bush administration began assembling its case for war, analysts across the U.S. intelligence community were disturbed by the report of a secretive Pentagon team that concluded Iraq had significant ties to Al Qaeda.

Analysts from the CIA and other agencies "disagreed with more than 50%" of 26 findings the Pentagon team laid out in a controversial paper, according to testimony Friday from Thomas F. Gimble, acting inspector general of the Pentagon.

...................

"They weren't creating intelligence, but they were assembling the pieces to create a rationale for war," Crowley said. "Their production was discredited, but they had the desired effect. The little pieces ended up infecting the process."

1. It's time to call to account
those who perpetrated this hoax on the American people, this country, our friends and the world. Ted Kennedy was right when he called it a fraud dreamed up in Texas. And the thugs that did it want to do it again. NO MORE!

4. The UN inspectors said there were no "WMDs" only Bush WH
said they were there. But the US was duped by Bushs massive PR campaign together with post-9-11 hysteria. Only a few people in congress were against this pre-emptive war, and they were villified in the GOP controlled
Associated Press.

20. One simple question I kept asking....
The Bush administration constantly said that not only was it guaranteed that WMDs were in Iraq, but "we know right where they are, too."

If that was the case, why didn't they tell the Han Blix and his inspection team precisely where to find these WMDs? You know, tell the people charged with disposing of the aforementioned weapons where they can be found?

Neocons tend to start frothing at the mouth whenever I bring that one up.

28. The RWers are still trying to dig up the WMD
I heard a caller on Thom Hartmann this past week insist that when the NY Times publicized that Team Bush had put nuke plans on the internets tubes, it really detailed all of Saddam's WMD programs, and also said how they moved all of their WMD to Syria.

:banghead:

I wish they had a "grasping at straws" smiley...

32. The very fact that we can't find the WMDs is proof that they ARE there!
If we could have found them, they wouldn't have been hidden. If they weren't hidden, they weren't dangerous. If they weren't dangerous, they weren't WMDs. If they weren't WMDs, they wouldn't be hidden. If they weren't hidden, we would have found them.

Ergo, since we haven't found them, they must be there!

We'd better bomb something before they kill us all!

10. My intuitive guess would be that nearly all if not 100% of Bush's/Cheney's
...justifications for going to war with Iraq were untrue and/or gross distortions of the truth. Now we are facing the same type of distortions and lies regarding justification for war with Iran, but where many more Americans are not buying those lies, Bush and Cheney are simply defying the will of the people and plan to go to war regardless. These criminal bullies must be stopped now. Impeach Bush/Cheney now

12. Americans were terrorized into war with Iraq
Aluminum tubes. Niger yellowcake. A vial of "anthrax". Mushroom clouds. All of it nothing but propaganda intentionally fabricated for the express purpose of scaring people into supporting the invasion of Iraq.

BushCo are treasonous traitors -- and worse, they're TERRORISTS.

15. Maybe.
First, we need to know who knew what and when, a.k.a. solid evidence. Until we have that, trying the Chimp could backfire.

21. News priorities
I first heard this story on the day Anna Nicole died. I'm sorry she died, but all the networks did the rest of that day was wall-to-wall coverage of her and were ignoring the fact that the Pentagon cooked up intel to start a war which has killed thousands of our troops, maimed tens of thousands of our troops, killed hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis, and has made millions of refugees, not to mention will cost us taxpayers around 2/3 of a trillion dollars when all said and done. I wish they would get their priorities straight. :grr:

23. Welcome to DU, flair2000!
:hi: I'm afraid, though, I have to disagree with you on where the media's priorities are.

They're not really in business to inform the public. They're in business to make a profit. So in that way, their priorities are in fact 100% straight.

To that end, the ANS story was a godsend.

You'll find you get a lot more of REAL FACTS and good information right here on DU.

25. i bet they're not even counting 9/11 either
If we include all the references to 9/11 as justification,
the other 50% went out the window too.

These criminals were ecstatic for having robbed the bank, and after
a breathtaking feeding binge at the public trough, after bilking every
future taxpayer for a fortune, the robbers are fat and lazy,
burping and throwing their beer cans at iraqis.

30. Rumsfailed knew where those WMDs were.
On March 30, 11 days into the war, Rumsfeld said in an ABC News interview when asked about WMDs: "We know where they are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat."

33. Catapulting the Propaganda
As we shift our focus from Iraq to Iran, it is also worth remembering this statement from President Bush in May of 2005 while speaking (about social security) to a group in New York:

"See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda."
