From Germany: the truest statement about war I have ever heard

I was watching a documentary on the naval battle for the Atlantic in World War II.
It told how the fanatic Nazi Admiral Dönitz always painted a rosier picture of his
successes than reality would have portrayed (when has it ever been any different?).

In the course of the documentary, one historian commented:

ALLE KRIEGE BEGINNEN MIT LÜGEN

(All wars begin with lies).


I saw the post about Bush's March 19, 2003 address to the country, stating why he was
initiating the attack on Iraq, and thought of the comment in the German documentary
last night. How very true (again).

"The surge is working!" will go down in history with "the check
is in the mail," "the dog ate my homework," and "I am not a crook."
