1. The 2007 model
gets better gas mileage than any of the earlier models. I am not sure what the mileage is. But, I have and '05 Cooper S and I get 27MPG in the city and 34 on the highway. MY wife has the '05 Cooper and she gets 32 to and from work (city.) We have not taken it on a highway trip yet. I would recommend that car to anyone!

I want one so badly. They're adorable, and I've heard only great things about them.

2. I'm not in the Know
but my wife has the hots for that little rascal. Are you referring to the 08 model when you say "next year" relative to gas mileage? My wife "made her own" on the internet and it was getting kinda pricey. She's got it narrowed down to a Mini or a Honda Civic. I told her she could get an 08 of her choice as long as gas mileage was pushing 40.

4. I understand the '08's will have a big jump
in mileage, or so i read some months back. I have a perfectly good '82 AMC Scrambler and we have a fine '97 Tbird , both guzzlers. Or else we buy the photovotaic cells for the roof. we are in the desert.

6. I started
my Naval Career in the California Desert (yes, the Navy in the Desert) right after boot camp in San Diego. I was stationed at NWC China Lake in 1973. Had a great time, after the initial shock of being dropped off at the Main Gate in Ridgecrest at Midnight on a Friday Night. I thought I was on another Planet.

8. did you hear they improved the gas mileage on both models? The new s will have
more horsepower than the current S but that would be sweet if they upped the mileage. I'm thinking about a mini after i hand off my vw convertible to my kid in 3 years.

7. If I still lived in Boston, I'd be driving a Mini or even a Smart Car
I live out west, so I drive a Korean econobox that won't kill me on long drives and that has good cargo room for any gear I take with me.

Just consider the purpose when you buy a car. If I had a clutch of kids with sports equipment, I'd have bought a hybrid SUV.

25 yrs old but a beauty w only 85K. ( It pays for itself once or twice a year) No Smart cars out here yet. Comfort is a factor as we are both older and partner is big.

10. If you see any lit, check if it's British MPG which will be in Imperial gallons.
MPG in Imp Gals will be higher than US MPG.

13. The 2007 base Mini gets 32 city/40 highway mpg -
I can't imagine any substantial leap from there unless the car had a hybrid engine, which I don't think is the case!

15. I recommend the Nissan Altima.
Just got one, fucking love it. It's American made (at Nissan's NA plant in Tennessee), gets between 35 - 40 MPG on average, and is partial zero emission rated. Fantastic car.

17. If you want to have fun while driving
Get the MINI. Hands down the most fun car I have ever owned or driven. And, there are more mods available ofr those cars than you can shake a stick at. Performance, appearance, ammenities. You name it, they make it for that car.
