Bush& biographer - scenes played on a TV show last night (Damages)
It was an amazing "life imitates art situation for those watching "Damages" last night after reading the articles on Bush & Draper earlier in the day.
In the show, and Enron type CEO fighting for his life in court, is suddenly preoccupied with his legacy. The episode is called "She spat at me" - because it was such an incident that prompted him to try and take back his name.
Against his lawyer objections, he hires a ghost writer to write a biography that will set things right. The publisher wants to focus on the company's problems - but he wants the book to be about his childhood triumphs and conquering dislexia.
There is a scene that particularly reminded my of the NYT article - where Bush tells Draper he wants things right with this book - then comments to a staffer about this being "worthless use of time".
The fictional Ken Lay goes drunk one night with a box of trophies to the writer's home, behaving just like Bush. As the writer tries to have his time/home/life to himself, the bully shows his colors, launches into a deprecating diatribe, ending with punching the writer in the nose, leading to assault charges, tabloid covers.
I couldn't escape the parallels between "Bush peeks at his legacy" and "She spat at me"
