Why Pelosi is afraid to impeach.
Disclaimer: Of course this is conjecture and opinion.

She's not controlled by right wing interests or covering for bushco. She's acting out of self-interest. And what might that self-interest be? She's the first woman Speaker, and as such, the scrutiny of her ability to hold a diverse caucus together, and to exercise some sort of control, to be effective, is even more intense than it normally is for a Speaker: She's afraid the caucus will simply fly apart and she'll be savaged. And if the Caucus does fly apart, she's probably out.

I'm not condoning her actions, simply examining them.

1. So, you're saying she's covering her own ass at the country's expense?
Of course she is. We all know that.

3. Sure, that's part of it, but she could also
legitimately believe that it's not in the best interest of the party or the country to blow up the House. But yeah, self-interest is in the mix.

gave a flying fig.

7. The repukes in Congress were united behind impeaching
Clinton. The dems are conflicted about impeaching bush. That's why impeaching would likely blow up the caucus, should articles be introduced. I'm still for it, but I'm laboring under no illusions that he'd be impeached.

11. Thanks to the Blue Dogs and the DLC, the dems never have been united.
We have to vote them out!

12. And what?
Many of them would simply be replaced by repukes.

17. believe that it's not in the best interest of the party or the country
This is a very very common phenomenon. Sometimes politicians act out of raw and abject self-interest - they lie, cheat and steal knowing full well it will cost the country.

But far more often politicians simply come to truly believe that their particular involvement in the political process is vitally critical to the national interest. Their egos explode to such bloated proportions that they imagine great national sacrifices can truly be justified in the name of them maintaining their critical positions of power.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Nancy truly believed that maintaining her position as Speaker is of paramount interest to the survival of the republic - far and above the importance of any particular issue, even war and peace. Twisted but true.

2. Very selfish to put herself before her country...
She promised to protect, uphold and defend the Constitution. Will she fail to do as she promised?

4. I don't think things are ever quite
as simple as some people believe. I'm sure she believes that she is upholding the Constitution. Whether she is or not, is a matter of opinion.

I think history will sort it out...meanwhile the country and the rule of law twists in the wind.

immoral war? By letting these thugs rape the Treasury? By letting them spy on American citizens? By allowing them to politicize the entire Federal Government? By telling us that what they do is not any of our damn business?

Funny way to uphold the Constitution.

8. Who knows? Who cares? It no longer matters.
Why did the German Social Democrats give into Hitler right up until the very end, when they briefly found their spines before being dissolved and sent variusly to the camps?

The reasons no longer mattered to those living in the maelstrom, and the se hold true today.

I have seen a hundred threads devoted to this topic, some I started myself.

Anthrax?
Blackmail?
Small Plane Crashes?
Trapped in Fox's False Reality?
Selfish self-interest?

IT NO LONGER MATTERS. IT JUST IS.

It has just gone too far to be changed by normal political means.

13. Nancy Thinks She Is Doing Her Job, and Doing It Well
In spite of this nation and the rest of the world telling her otherwise. There must be an epidemic of delusion down in DC.

and why should they hold so much uncompromising power in such a diverse caucus?

Hint: They're blue and they piss on the rug.
