Support Iraqi Resistance To The Oil Law.
I do not know how to post articles.

Please go to <http://priceofoil.org/thepriceofoil/war-terror/iraqui-oil-law>

Of course if you donate funds you will be in danger of being found guilty of supporting terrorists under Bush's new law but you could write to your local paper instead.

So far only Kucinich supports the Iraqi people's fight to hang onto their oil. A powerful bi-partisan group led by Warner is putting pressure on the Iraqi government to sign over most of their oil to the International Oil Companies. What a crime. How many Democratic Politicians are with Warner on this? The passing of the Hydrocarbon Act reversing the nationalization of the Iraqi oil is the "benchmark" the Bush government and the bi-partisan group is trying to force the Iraqi government to meet.

1. Thank you, irislake!
The news we get here in the States is remarkably deficient. It doesn't help, of course, that most of the Democratic candidates for President are flogging the BushCo-sponsored meme that the Iraqis aren't meeting the benchmarks, carefully overlooking, of course, the fact that those same Iraqis are being blackmailed into coughing up their oil to Americans. That's one of the benchmarks: Surrender close to 80 percent of your oil to a foreign country! Who wouldn't drag his/her feet in such a situation?!

God bless Dennis Kucinich for telling the truth about this shameful episode.

2. "So far only Kucinich supports ...."
Seems like we hear that phrase a lot:

So far only Kucinich supports:

*Impeachment

*Withdrawal from NAFTA, WTO, IMF

*Joining the World in banning Land Mines and supporting the ICC

*Single Payer Universal HealthCare

*Election Reform (NO BBV, Paper ballots, hand counted)

*Ending the WAR/OCCUPATION in Iraq

*Reducing the Pentagon budget

Opposing the obscene and illegal "Oil Law" is only one occasion where Dennis Kucinich STANDS UP and LEADS. He is the ONLY Democrat who will even talk about this. The rest of the Democrats(?) support forcing this down the Iraqis throats with a gun barrel. The Oil Law is the NUMBER 1 "benchmark" supported by the Democratic Party in their failed version of the Iraq Funding Bill. The silence of the Democratic Party on this issue is significant.

"ONLY Kucinich....."

The Democratic Party is a BIG TENT, but there is NO ROOM for those
who advance the agenda of THE RICH (Corporate Owners) at the EXPENSE of LABOR and the POOR.

4. Yes the silence is significant, not only by the Dem party but here
on Democratic Underground as well. For months these threads have barely had any attention and are lucky to even make it on the greatest page. So I do not know what to believe anymore.

Obviously there was a hearing on this issue in July which I missed, here is the video of Rep. Delahunt speaking, but a transcript of the entire hearing would be nice. Rep Sestak has spoken out as well, it is on ThinkProgress. No Dem leaders, no other Dem candidates only a few in Congress.

Kucinich brings up the issue whenever he can in TV interviews and in debates, of course there is never a follow up question on this issue. 76% of Iraqi's polled said we are there for their resources, mentioned in the video below.

Is Kucinich the only candidate that cares about our soldiers and the people in Iraq?

3. K&R also be prepared for this...
For the Record, Congress Never Passed a Benchmark to Privatize Iraq's Oil

Interesting article on the language in the second supplemental
bill (HR 2206) that was signed into law.

Note how the language changed between the two supplemental bills. The question I see is whether or not the 'fair distribution' is part of the draft hydrocarbon law or whether or not it is a separate bill? Of course it could have been part of the draft law and now might be a separate bill and still linked, or not, with the Oil Law? One has to wonder how many of our elected officials even read the draft Iraq Oil Law before casting their votes on the supplemental bills...

...Here is the speech that Kucinich gave on the House floor on May 23, 2007 which may have helped change the language in the second supplemental bill. But if the "fair distribution" clause is really part of the draft hydrocarbon law and not a separate law then are we not, in essence, making the passage of the entire hydrocarbon law a benchmark?

5. "Error: You've already recommended that thread."
so I'll have to settle for merely a kick!

Hillary has publicly criticized the Iraqi Parliament for not passing the "Oil Sharing" benchmark.
