Republicans really seem to think "I do not recall" is an actual legal defense.

I'm listening to the Craig Tapes on MSNBC. Senator Larry Craig actually tried the "I do not recall" defense in answering why he was running his hand along the bottom of the stall partition. "I do not recall doing that...I was reaching for toilet paper."

Any constituent who actually believes this kind of bullshit explanation deserves to have a Larry Craig as their Senator. Just how stupid do you have to be to get on this guy's mailing list?

1. In Republican't Land, "I don't recall" is a perfectly legitimate
defense, but if, and ONLY if, you are a Republican't. Anyone else, in their mind, should have the hammer brought down on them.

and I see a hand reaching in to my stall, the first thing I'm thinking is someone is trying to steal my wallet and I'm going to step on that hand first and ask questions later.

5. Steve Martin said it thirty years ago.
He did this joke before some of you DUers were even born...back when he was still doing the arrow-through-the-head shtick. The routine was called "How to Not Pay Taxes on A Million Dollars."

"First," he said, "get a million dollars."

"Then, don't pay taxes on it. Then, when the IRS comes after you and asks why you didn't pay taxes on your million dollars, you just say...

"I forgot!"

Fuck Ronald Reagan. I think Steve Martin is really their patron saint.

6. Why shouldn't they, it works.
They've been not recalling since Reagan. It seems to be the best way to obfuscate crimes without being charged with perjury.
