1. Pretty misleading subject line, jus_the_facts
There is only one active tropical storm anywhere near the USA, and it's in the Eastern Pacific. The others are routine discussions of tropical waves, some of which may have the potential to develop into tropical depressions.

5. Advisory != Storm
Please read up on the terminology. The subject is very interesting.

6. the terminology is the way the weatherunderground used it....
....I know a tropical wave isn't a "storm"...yet...the potential is there so awareness of the potential should be reported...if you have a personal problem with how the terminology is used maybe the weatherunderground needs a lecture on the subject. :eyes:

7. They do indeed need a lecture on their terminology
because, under the bit saying "Active Tropical Storm Advisories: 7", it says, for the Atlantic: "There are no active tropical storm advisories for this region". They counted up the 'areas of interest' and then misleadingly used that count in their "active tropical storm advisories" title.

8. It's much more fun to badger you about your poor fact-checking
Your screen name screams for it.

4. The 4 in the North Atlantic
appear to be nothing more than standard low pressure areas with the potential to produce a little wind and rain. Invest 94 looks to be the only one far enough south to be concerned about.
