Poll question: Randi Rhodes vs. Ed Schultz
Who do you like more? Who do you feel speaks for you?

I listen to both - Both come on live in my market, but I do have a favorite.

1. Stephanie Miller.
Rhodes and Schultz both have their good points but also their downsides (Schultz can be too conservative, Rhodes has the voice and manners of a buzzsaw).

3. I love Steph. too, she is also live on here, but she is not on the poll.
I think I want to make a point once we get a large enough sample. I wanted a comparision of these 2.

7. Okay, if you really are asking about these two and only these two,
I gotta go with Ed. I agree with him less often but he is so much more listenable. Just my opinion, of course.

8. I liked her a lot better before I found out she knew Insanity ...
There was something really disturbing about her conversation with him, especially how she distanced herself from Air America. Yes, she's not Air America, but without AAR, where would Jones Radio be? It felt like she was throwing AAR under the bus and it's left a bad taste in my mouth ... Not to mention that she spent WAAAAAY too much time on her shows recently on the fucking astronut ...

23. It was disturbing hearing him on my radio
However, Steph did defend AAR, which she didn't have to as she's not on AAR. She lit into him for his lie that progressive radio isn't doing well. I don't think she threw them under the bus.

2. Randi!
Though I will say, on a positive note for Ed, that if I were trying to introduce someone to a different point of view than Bill-o or his ilk, I'd start with Ed before Randi, as I think they could identify with him more.

5. I loves my Randi!
Ed is way too conservative for me. I have come to embrace Randi's style, appreciate all that she has to teach her audience. And if she's a little abrasive to callers sometimes, oh well. Most of them deserve it when she goes off. IMHO.

36. I don't understand all this "Randi is less conservative than Ed" stuff.
She is just more predictable at toeing the Party line, or the blogosphere line of the moment, and shouting down anyone who wants to debate the issue. And sometimes the Party line, or the blogosphere line ("this is the meme we need to be spreading in order to win the next election") is wrong, for instacne, the notion that Obama is some kind of fair-trade populist who will save us from the DLC. I think Ed at least comes by his opinions honestly.

46. Randi, tow the party line?
You've got to be kidding! The other day she was considering if there was a way to start a successful new party because she is not pleased with many of the Democrats. She never has been. In fact, she has been a thorn in the side of elected Democrats, especially in the senate.

9. Ed is just not smart enough or well prepared.
He clearly does not really research anything - he is handed talking points. If a caller brings up an alternate subject Ed never knows the issue.

10. Stephanie Miller
Game set match

Before "they" had to shut her (and progressive radio) down in Columbus she had tripled
the ratings and then doubled her ratings again.

Given fair chance her show would get to be as big as Rush or Hannity's.

Besides she "wants me so bad"

11. WooHoo! Randi is @ 100%
:D

Hands down, I adore Randi and feels she speaks for me. She does her research and knows--really knows--the issues.

I tried to listen to Schultz for about 6 months or so. Schultz would disgust me so often, but I kept trying to give him a chance...but I can't do it any longer. Schultz spends more time yelling at and degrading informed Democratic callers and kissing the ass of Publican callers :puke: Schultz is not informed, and it is difficult not to believe that he waits for his talking points from the dlc.

Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 04:33 PM by butterfly77
they both get on my nerves...Shultz because he seems to only be interested in his ratings and advertisers and he he lacks info most of the time and when someone comes on who has facts he sometimes doesn't listen and gets angry because they have a different opinion. Randi has a lot of facts and information but, she doesn't let the callers finish their point and then she talks over them and tells them what they are saying before they can finish their thoughts, but she is very knowledgable...But I am starting to not like shultz more and more...If you ask who are my favorites they are Mike Malloy and Thom Hartmann...

27. I prefer Ed Schultz...
It doesn't matter if he agrees with me all of the time or not. And I think he does a better job of talking with callers than most of the AAR hosts.

I just can't listen to Randi. Her voice and attitude annoy me.

Love Steph Miller and Rachel Maddox. Also like Thom Hartman.

30. Ed Schultz is my husband's new best friend. My husband, as many
of you know, was a sympathetic Libertarian with some RW tendencies before Bush was elected. He is now, in part thanks to listening to our local affiliate, an outspoken member of the Democratic Party...down to the stickers on his car (No W, Proud of my country, Ashamed of my President, and I have a dream with a picture of Bush behind bars). I am so proud. But he really likes Ed. I don't really listen to either.

31. I Choose Randi Because I REALLY Hate Ed
After listening to his "interview" of Keith Ellison, I washed my hands of him forever. Randi might be a bit over the top, but she isn't so stupid as to ask a Democrat if he will tolerate Jews.

39. I thought the interview was fine. He stumbled a little there but nothing major.
It sounded like he was trying to give Ellison the chance to talk about how he had good relations with Jewish people. It was a dumb question and I think Ed realized it right after he asked it, but it seemed to me Ed was trying to give Keith an opportunity to squash any right wing propaganda that Muslims and Jewish folks can't get along.

40. I first snapped to Randi
in 2001 just after the "incident". WPB is a medium-size market (I think), and I figured that Randi was just one of dozens of liberal talk show hosts throughout the U S.

Much to my surprise, she turned out to be one of a handful. (A handful of which Ed Schultz is not.)

Yes, she often annoys me when she pontificates to a caller, instead of taking the collaborative approach.

But, when she's on fire, she's on FIRE!

Of the two, I voted for Randi Rhodes because she seems to have the facts at her disposal. But I don't like her abrasive attitude with some of the callers, even those who agree with her. I like Ed Schultz too.

I couldn't stand 9 straight hours of Stephanie Miller, or Randi Rhodes, or Ed Schultz, just like I couldn't stand listening to blues for 9 hours straight or eating pizza every day all day (well, maybe I could stand constantly having pizza in my mouth after all).

I like the combination of hosts and wouldn't want it to change.

47. Randi in that battle, no contest....
That said, I really only listen to her when she's talking. When she takes calls or does interviews, I turn her off, because she's even rude to the callers who agree with her. And her extreme sense of self-importance comes out during interviews.
I'll take Thom Hartmann, Sam Seder, and Mike & Pap over anybody else. I like Stephanie Miller's show a lot too, but it's considerably less "weighty" than the others. Her discussions of issues aren't exactly deep.
