I keep hearing ads touting Chevy fuel efficiency "Based on EPA estimates and segmentation"

So - my question is: what is "segmentation"? I know about EPA estimates....
But the phrase "Based on EPA estimates and segmentation" puzzles me - anyone know?

My guess is that the new CAFE standards breaks different vehicle types into segments. Thus they are comparing among other vehicle in the same segment (light truck, compact, mid size, etc).

out of style".

More seriously, "among other light trucks/compact
cars/what-have-you".
