Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 09:59 AM by marmar
Demented and sad, but social. - OP's "Breakfast Club"-influenced comment.

That’s okay lady, I do the same thing. The older I get the worse I spell.

P.S. I heard Gonzalez is going back to Texas to manage a Taco Bell.

“Yup, more political party payback...just make sure he/she is brown friendly. How about a nominee that will uphold the law.”

Olson is not a friend Bush. He is just a very honest and upright man who has been a good Republican. That doesn’t mean he is a hack. He never has been, and he was very instrumental in the choices of Alito and Roberts. Don’t knock him.

The guy really was a terrible choice. Like Harriet Meyers. Let’s see who Bush will chose next. The Dems want a liberal hack or someone like Fitzpatrick. Let’s see if Bush shoots himself in the foot yet again.

They are saying “Chertoff likely replacement”! Are they stoned? Don’t they realize it will be Harriet Miers Part II? Chertoff should have been canned along with Big Gay Alberto—not PROMOTED! IF Bush recess appoints Chertoff, the House and Senate GOP should deny him anything else until he’s out of office.

I believe Fredo is going fishing, ie sleeping with the fishes. That's his fishmeister behind him, a loyal trusted goon.

Here’s my question, would Bush have given him the job if he wasn’t Hispanic?

If people disagree with me it's clear they need therapy.

13. Try reading the book.
I think you'll find it illuminating. Authoritarian followers can use some therapy because they have more of a tendency to kill people, which was why the subject was studied in the first place. Or do you think the behavior in Nazi Germany and Rwanda was simply disagreement?

16. Tap dancing Cassandra
Now appearing at the center stage.

The OP said Conservatism is a mental illness - you are changing it to "Authoritarian followers." Which conservatives do you want to sign up for treatment? What percentage of Conservatives? What public conservatives?

19. Apparently about 29%
Probably higher since we're talking only about conservatives, who have the highest concentration of authoritarian followers.
We could start with Coulter, if you like. There are also authoritarian leaders, a small subset. Giuliani is certainly in need of something....Rush, Hannity, Bush, Cheney, etc.

Any other regime that attempted to "cure" those they disagreed with? I'm not thinking of the Nazis by the way.

23. It has brought me to a greater understanding...
of those regimes with re-education camps, which does give me pause. I don't want that but I have a sense of the impulse to want to fix people.
Really, when you have the time, read the book. There's clearly a fear and lack of security and certainty sometime in early childhood that has the people I'm thinking of embrace black-and-white thinking and worship authoritarian leaders. Some therapy might help with impulse control and add some nuance to their us vs. them philosophy. However, I'm not sure that empathy can be acquired late in life.

You can debate a conservative. I can stomache real conservatives...so should anyone here. They're ultra-rightwing f***tards.

7. Thank you ...
Much like Conservatives turned Liberal into a dirty word.
I see Liberals condemning anything they think is Conservative.

I am a conservative. I grew up in a real conservative family and environment. I consider myself a left leaning conservative.

The term conservative has been completely corrupted since Reagan took office. I do not consider any of these criminals conservatives. They completely hijacked the term conservative, and unfortunately real conservatives did not stop them.

Cheers
Drifter

11. I work with a few real conservatives
Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 10:18 AM by YOY
They use logic and will concede defeat on a point if logic prevails. I have too as well.

They are beginning to see through all the Bill Clinton scapegoating after I pointed out a few things about his record an that he did (with some exceptions) exactly what a conservative president is supposed to: strong on economy and balancing the budget and not too concerned with social issues.

Don't get me wrong, I thought he was a great president, but just because he DID THE JOB the Republicans keep bragging about. If that's not greatness, it's at least competence, which is more than I can say for President Dippy Dog the puppet.

The Neocons are not conservative. They took ultra-right wing and called it Republican mainstay. They are a group of parasites that need a bogeyman to keep inflated military contracting budgets high and the populace to be quelled by fear mongering and a lack of a knowledge as to exactly what a government is supposed to do.

18. Yeah, unfortunately
"Real Conservatives" didn't seem to have much of a problem with what the "fake" Conservatives were up to until things started to go south in the polls. I'd agree with you if they had stood up and taken public principled stands before it became politically advisable to do so, but they didn't.

Freepers need to learn English, or need a moral compass installed in their pathetic little souls.

BTW, what's the reference to Winnie the Pooh in a boat? I'll probably be sorry I asked...
