U.S worried about European commitment to Afganistan
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=276863

Debate is raging in Italy and Germany on whether they should remain in the International Security and Assistance Force.

As casualties increase in the fight to stem the bloody Taliban insurgency, including the friendly fire incident that killed three British soldiers last week, Washington is worried that European support is eroding.

The U.S administration believes European nations will fall away as they face upcoming votes at home on their military commitments in Afghanistan.

With 2,500 troops, Italy heads NATO's Herat-based regional command in western Afghanistan.

Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D'Alema recently blamed a lack of coordination between U.S and ISAF forces for hundreds of Afghan civilian deaths and said he was concerned about being associated with the U.S administration.

In Germany, where polls show a strong 64 percent majority calling for withdrawal, parliament will have to vote on whether to continue with commitments for reconstruction, military deployment and training of Afghan forces.

3. Ya well Italy might not be so supportive of the US right now.
Can't say I blame them after the stuff we've pulled, illegally, inside their borders.
