Got a new tropical storm- here in Wisconsin

National Weather Service says gusts over 60 MPH. We already have over a foot of rain in SE Wisconsin this month, close to two feet in SW Wisconsin.:wow:

I guess someone got really mad about that article with the Army Corps of Engineers putting a bad dredge in Lake Huron and costing the Great Lakes almost 2 billion gallons/day more than they should be draining.

4. No kidding. This North-South drought/flood split has gotten stupid.
Everything Twin Cities and south is buying boats and the North Woods is a fire hazard with lakes you can wade across.

2. I've seen the flooding in that area, on TV.

I hope this passes quickly.

Stay safe!

6. Am watching closely - from Michigan
My home in SE Wisconsin was struck by lightning in April, causing extensive repairs leading me to stay at a family home in Michigan for the duration.

Had a new sump pump installed in addition to the daylight drain already there.

Hope that suffices and I don't get an urgent call from the contractor before I return in September.

Glad my claim with AmFam was approved before all the new ones coming in from this seige.

Watching the news and grieving for all those who lost famly members in addition to their homes.

8. They are saying it's a Hurricane in Milwaukee? Is this Normal for WI?
This time of year...is this unusual or never heard of? I'm in NC so I honestly don't know what is normal for the Midwest at this time of year.

10. 78 is not a hurricane, but it is a very strong T-storm
not unusual for SD at least to get hit by those up to Labor Day. In the driftless region though, like Richland Center, Wi they are not accustomed to strong winds. They think 50 mph winds are severe. I used to laugh at that, but I was not happy when I was at an outdoor concert and a big storm hit. It blew the stage over. Thankfully this storm seems to be staying south of RC which has already been flooded pretty bad.

17. The mountains in San Diego County get T-storms with 90+ MPH winds
I've seen some amazing records and damage at the few remaining fire watch towers.

14. 74+ is hurricane force. Storms this strong are pretty rare. We've had three weeks worth.
Edited on Wed Aug-22-07 06:54 PM by BadgerLaw2010
Like I said, over a foot of rain in the first three weeks of August, which is more than July, August and September combined in a normal year. The winds...maybe three storms a year that get over 50+ gusts, sometimes one of those being a blizzard.

Hurricane-force gusts that aren't connected to a tornado are extremely rare up here. It does happen. Last one I remember in a system like this was eight years ago, though.

Of course, we had barely over an inch of rain in July and were in drought conditions. Go figure.

15. We here in NC are in severe drought. Farmers having to use hay to feed livestock that was
meant to get them through the Winter. Crops dried up...corn (all that corn for Archer Daniels Midland's Ethanol and it's dried in the fields. Everything else is under severe stress.

I guess we will need more Chinese Imports to tide us through.....:-(

Sorry about what you all are going through. It's not a normal year...that's for sure.

16. I think the correct term is gust front - It is not a warm-core tropical system
Still pretty nasty to be in.

9. Minnesota is flooded and some houses still under water
The southern part of MN flooded out and I think it was the same system heading into WI. But the weather channel was the only one who covered MN. CNN and MSNBC went crazy over the conditions in OK and Texas and didn't even mention all the deaths and the destruction. Roads washed out. Towns under water and WI is getting much of the same.

and i think it will be cresting again in the next few days again...

here`s a good site for regional figures....http://mcc.sws.uiuc.edu/

i noticed that in northern illinois we are trending increased rain fall in the months of july and august.

if it does`t start drying out the corn and beans are going to be hurt. it`s going to take a ton of money to dry the corn this year...ya ethanol is the solution.
