LA TIMES Editorial: "The Rapture Is Not A Viable Exit Strategy"
Edited on Wed Aug-22-07 09:23 AM by kpete
Not so fast, Christian soldiers

The Pentagon has a disturbing relationship with private evangelical groups.
August 22, 2007

Our military personnel swear an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, not the Bible. Yet by turning a blind eye to OSU and Christian Embassy activities, the Pentagon is, in essence, endorsing their proselytizing. And sometimes it's more explicit than that.

American military and political officials must, at the very least, have the foresight not to promote crusade rhetoric in the midst of an already religion-tinged war. Many of our enemies in the Mideast already believe that the world is locked in a contest between Christianity and Islam. Why are our military officials validating this ludicrous claim with their own fiery religious rhetoric?

It's time to actively strip the so-called war on terror of its religious connotations, not add to them. Because religious wars are not just ugly, they are unwinnable. And despite what Operation Straight Up and its supporters in the Pentagon may think is taking place in Iraq, the Rapture is not a viable exit strategy.

3. Losers embrace the RAPTURE because....
...well, they're losers. (How else would you describe people who actively pray for the end of the earth)?

7. Nobody offered them a job
the unemployment ran out and the bill collectors want you to settle the loan for tuition on that degree in End of Times Studies.

There's nothing left but the rapture.

Where's Jim Jones when you need him?

6. While I agree with the position taken by the LA Times, mainstream news
should not even mention words like 'Rapture'. Even mentioning the word gives an amount of validity to insane ideas like 'Rapture'. There is no room for whacko religious beliefs. Period. Bury them. Deny them. Exterminate them.

8. I just saw a really scary BookTv segment on this topic.
Check out: www . militaryreligiousfreedom . org

Iirc, it was founded by a Navy vet who has three kids in uniform. The family happens to be Jewish and the kids have been subjected to evangelizing by Dominionists AS PART OF THEIR SERVICE. That is one pissed off Dad.

9. So - how many times in a year does the LATimes print something
like this? I'm surprised.

I had no idea that there was an OSU that this rapture and integrated stuff was as imbedded as it is. Disgustingly sad.
