because el pretzeldente is in town. What a bunch of bullshit. Hundreds of thousands of people greatly inconvenienced because the most evil president in history is here to lie to the American people once again about the illegal war he started.

Yesterday he shut down the highways in Minneapolis. Like those people need to be even more inconvenienced?

3. He's speaking in Downtown KCMO.
But the shutdown affects both cities. There's a lot of cross-commuting. If you work downtown or need to get through it, you're screwed.

5. Both
70 is shut down from the Kansas state line into downtown KCMO. 35 is shut down from the Kansas state line into downtown KCMO. The highways intersect right at the convention center where bush is speaking. So drivers in both states are inconvenienced. I have been driving through downtown KCMO to get to work for 20+ years now and I can never remember a time when both highways were shut down.

And the asshole isn't even speaking until 10:00 am. So why do they have to inconvenience drivers for 4 hours before his speech?

4. he was in Minneapolis for a Norm Coleman fundraiser. Al Franken
could use some help, a dollar or two - use my link if you'd like to contribute.

The people who hosted yesterday's bush/Coleman fundraiser in Minneapolis are doing another one next week for Fred Thompson (bush won't be there).

11. Is this normal?
For other cities or other presidents?

The pretzeldent came to my city once last year, but I don't recall any such major shutdown.

16. When he was here last year, they only shut down the roads he was on while he was on them
Today they have shut down 2 major highways for 4 hours before his scheduled appearance.

13. Took the bus past the Intercontinental on the Plaza this AM
Company-strength Secret Service & entourage guys, and about 20 identical white SUVs, along with an armored car from the cops.

Made me wonder if Kim Jong Il was in town . . .

Downtown loop closures continue

Work crews shut down the eastbound lanes of Interstate 670 on the south side of the downtown loop this morning. They won’t reopen until 5 a.m. tomorrow.

The westbound lanes of I-670 on the south side of the loop, which were closed last night, should reopen at 1 p.m. today. The eastbound lanes will be closed again overnight Thursday.

The lane closures are part of a bridge-painting project.

While the lanes are shut down, traffic is detoured to the north side of the loop.

19. That project has been ongoing for more than a year
They have never shut down that section of highway during rush hour. So that work has not created a huge inconvenience.

That is probably every motorcycle cop from KCMO plus several from other outlying jurisdictions. What a waste.
