Things are really coming to a head .
I am not talking about political canditates or the Iraq occupation or even senseless issues such as regulations on porn .

I have been hearing alot about home foreclosures for a while now and alot more today on Randis show and Jeff Farias .

I don't have a home to loose , never had the income to even think about one .

So my concern is not about losing a home but how this will effect everyone down the line .

I am not here to judge people on sub prime lones , some may have known what they were in for , but I would assume most did not . Hell , not that I have one but I know how complicated it is just to buy a new car these days and since I worked in dealships not in sales but with customers who I knew were after lemon laws to get out of the car because many were conned by a salesman , so being sympathetic and working in the service dept knowing the process I would steer them in the right direction . Now mind you these people were not stupid and not out to cheat but were lied to after hours of going through mind blinding paperwork they could never understand .

A few even brought the car back the next day trying to get out of it once they read and realized what they actually signed .

I degress ,

with so many people losing their homes and many did try to work and play by the rules as we know many lost their job for one reason or another , were cut in hours or had their insurance taken away .

Now what do these people do , you can't find an apartment cheap anymore and need good credit and three months rent in advance , this higher rent also hurts people like me who live in rent control but in the years I have been in the same place my rent has more than doubled over the years as has just about anything else you NEED to survive .

I have been out of work for 14 months and can't even land a $10 per hour job for some reason or another and trust me I have looked into everything I can do without special degrees and I am not young anymore .

I should feel lucky we have no children but this does not make my situation feel better .

Not working kills you and makes you feel you are worthless in so many ways it's difficult to explain . and you are a failure even though I have worked hard for over 42 years , even longer if I count the years I worked summers for free due to my fathers demand .

I just wonder what people are going to do , good honest hardworking people who now find they either chose a line of work that no longer exists or for all the other reasons , outsourcing , closing , downsizing , pay cutbacks , ext .

It will affect most people even if they now are not in trouble because no job is secure these days and ones health can turn in an instant or they could lose their spouse .

1. I really hate to post this, but it is meant as a serious warning...
It ain't nearly over yet, as long as this Administration is in power! Gonna say, that every day opens my eyes wider and wider, and today thanks to sg_ and his posting of "War on Democracy" once again my eyes were opened even wider. I know that I sound like a "Doom and Gloom" person, but I really have to tell ya... We are in deep, deep shit if we don't act now... This country is in serious shit, with this Administration trying to put the finishing touches on Dictatorship IMHO....

All you have to do is go back in time and recall Bush's statement about wanting to become the Dictator cause it was too much work the way it was.

3. I have always said he speaks exactly what he thinks.....he is not
smart enough to do otherwise. People laughed because they thought he was joking.....I wasn't laughing.

In my opinion and I am no expert.....I think the crash has been coming for a long time....since the Rethuglican....live on Credit attitude poisened this country starting with Reagan.

I think that States, Cities and Towns will start to see more growth in local farms, businesses etc. I think that the big businesses that have outsourced many American jobs will not be welcome anymore.

I think "Buying American" will really be more than a slogan.

I read where people were upset because of the layoffs in the Subprime companies..Companies that should have never existed or should have been highly regulated.

I also believe that Regulation will come back even more fierce than it was before Reagan.

7.  Oh , I know we are far from done with this horror
And that bit bush said is still ringing in my ears since I saw F/911 by Moore . If that film did not grab everyone by the ears then they are past hope or caring .

I know he meant it , if anything he has proven it and re- enforced it many times over since then .

I see people in the near future pooling their resources and living in communes , perhaps it will work this time , didn't in the 60's but then most of us had somewhere to go with a roof and had at least a job .

Now is serious stuff , not that we weren't back then but this is different .

5. You are so right, Blues90.
Well if it's any consolation, there are millions & millions of us who are wondering....how long can this last? How long can WE last? Things are getting worse, with each passing day.

A friend of mine has a house in Arizona. It's a condo, just for investment. I told her to sell it. Now it's too late. I have a friend in Seattle, he has a house he just bought for $600,000 plus a fixer upper for $500,000. He's NOT going to be able to sell them. They've been on the market for a year. Just imagine, paying $8,000 / month mortgage payments. He's going to go under.
Another girlfriend has a house in Los Angeles. She just now told me she has an adjustable rate mortgage. Guess what? It's going through the roof.

The stories go on and on and on like that.

Kiss for you. Hang in there.

6. Here's a pretty direct "down the line" consequence for you...
Edited on Tue Aug-21-07 08:04 PM by Fridays Child
Eight hundred people were thrown out of work in my town, last week, when First Magnus closed its doors. Nationwide, 2,500 people are out of work.

8. You are right to be concerned..
... I've seen this coming for 2-3 years and have been preparing accordingly.

It might not be that bad, but the risk factor is very high. The Fed has already taken extraordinary steps to calm the markets, but the fact is that if enough mortgage companies go under, if enough hedge funds go under, if enough people lose their jobs, well things are going to get rough.

And right now I'd give even money that things are going to get much, much worse, and the most Americans are not paying any attention at all, as usual.
