Bush Ordered to Release Overdue Climate-Change Plan, Assessment

Aug. 21 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush must release a climate-change research plan and scientific assessment that are as much as two years overdue, a federal court ruled.

Officials in the Bush administration ``have unlawfully withheld reports they are required to disseminate,'' according to a ruling issued today by the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of California in Oakland.

``From muzzling NASA's top climate scientist to political cronies in the White House editing climate science reports, the Bush administration has repeatedly tried to obscure and deny the science, while attempting to run out the clock on his administration,'' John Coequyt, energy policy analyst with environmental group Greenpeace, said today in a statement.

Greenpeace was one of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit.
