I understand the reluctance to impeach Bush and Cheney
I don't agree with it, but I understand it. What I DON'T understand is why we're holding back on Alberto Gonzalez. I mean, we are talking about low hanging fruit here. Gonzalez is THE target of opportunity. There's no down side. The whole country knows he's an habitual liar. The firing of the US attorneys gives probable cause for an obstruction of justice charge. A simple house majority vote sends him to trial in the Senate. The discovery process would pull down the whole house of cards protecting the president, Cheney and Rove. In an impeachment hearing Executive privilege goes out the window. Rove, Myers, and even the pResident could be compelled to testify. Documents and emails long hidden, would have to be disgorged, exposing the administration's dirty linen to a full public airing.

Jay Inslee (WA 01) has introduced a Gonzalez impeachment resolution, H.res 589. It currently has 27 co-sponsors. Nancy Pelosi has apparently said she feels AG should be impeached, but as Leader she has to stay above the fray.

You want impeachment? Write or call your congress-critter. Visit them or go to a town-hall meeting while they're home for summer recess. Ask them if they will co-sponsor H.res 589 and help bring it to the floor. They just need a little urging. Let 'em hear from you.

1. No reluctance on my part
If I'd had any say in it, the whole gang would have been at The Hague months ago.

3. I agree
Unfortunately that's notgoing to happen. But AG is a gimme. It makes no sense not to take him down.

2. Really...Wasn't Newt Gingrich the Speaker of the House when
they attacked Clinton for a sexual encounter?

You can't go to a boxing match with one glove and the opponent has two....this is bullshit....

Either get into the Fray or get the hell out of the way....She is the Speaker of the House and when their is wrong doing and there is evidence of wrong doing it is her job to lead....that's what leaders do....

6. I believe H.res 333 calls for the impeachmentof Cheney
It has 33 co-sponsors. I don't think Pelosi will let 333 come to the floor, but she seem to be signaling that she's willing to let the House move on the AG's impeachment.

5. They should either impeach him, or do nothing
These stupid "no confidence" resolutions accomplish nothing and are like chasing a mouse around a maze.

Besides, "no confidence" votes are just a little too European for my taste.

9. In parlimentary systems, "no confidence" votes can end governments
Here in Canada, if a minority government gets a "no-confidence" motion approved against it, that's the end of that government.

But you're right, in the American system it's useless. It's one step down from Censure and doesn't achieve anything. And to lose even a non-confidence attempt is pathetic.

8. Called my congresscritter a long time ago.
Not that did any good. He couldn't hear me with his head so far up Bush's ass.

10. The "...process would pull down the whole house of cards protecting..."
Understand the "holding back" now?

They need a lot of urging. And they need to do the head, not the tails.

Nothing less is really "understandable."

12. I dare say that you are reluctant ...
to understand why too many in Congress are afraid of Impeachment. It's either ignorance of the danger that Bush et al pose to the country (are they really that stupid?), or fear that their own corruption will be exposed.
