An Open Letter To Socialists
Filed under: General @ 9:43 pm

I will keep this short and sweet.

I despise you.

Let’s not mince words.

You disgust me.

Socialism takes way the greatness of the human spirit. Without the possibility of abject failure the possibility of true success cannot be possible.

Imagine a ladder. Imagine a wall that stretches for infinity and has ladders all along it.

In your system the ladders are ten feet tall, at a 45 degree angle and bolted to a wall and there are cushions beneath it. All but the most inept creatures make it up their ladder, to mingle with all of the others that have made it up their ladder.

Where is the glory? Where are the people that have conquered adversity to rise up and shine as an example for the rest of us?

In your system, they simply don’t exist.

Now imagine that wall is now higher than you can see. It disappears into the clouds, and lining it are ladders leaning up close to the wall, not bolted on, and there are no cushions below to break your fall. Once you start climbing the ladder you find that every so often there is a level place where you can step off and stay if you wish. But you find that the higher you climb, the more enjoyable are the amenities.

Which ladder do you want to try to climb?

I want to climb that ladder into the clouds. Oh sure, I know I may fall, but the rewards are greater the higher I climb. I don’t want to climb the little ladder and be mingling with the people that also made it up that ladder. Where is the glory in that?

Where is the greatness of the human spirit?

You folks that believe we should have a more equal outcome, and that life isn’t fair, want to set up the system to give everyone short ladders on an easy climb.

And that is because you are cowards.

You are so scared of actually failing that you want to live in a system that takes away the possibility of failure, and to hide that cowardice you hide your intentions in alleged goals of “helping our fellow man.”

Help them do what? Be mediocre? Be run of the mill? Help them be just like everyone else? Help them be cowardly like you?

You socialists are so craven that you cringe at the thought of anyone actually succeeding, and hide behind platitudes and feel good language all the while hoping that nobody realizes what weak creatures you really are, and you sit around with a smug air of superiority that deep down you know is a hypocritical lie, and you grow to hate yourselves for it.

I am ashamed to share a planet with you.

I am ashamed to share DNA with you.

To those of you in the U.S. I am doubly ashamed to share a country with you. (move to france)

I am ashamed that there are humans so scared of life, so terrified of actually being a human and failing, that you advocate a system to make failure the only possible outcome for all.

I just wish you knew what it felt like to be ashamed, but you have no more shame. Your fear has overcome all of your other emotions, and you are leading us down a path that is going to make humanity much duller, less colorful and simply pointless.

Thanks for that.

Now hang your head and cry.

5. I saw part of a movie last night
with Gregory Peck, 12 O'Clock High, about air force in WW2. And it was so full of this he-man mentality, and being tough. It really seemed to me some men just love war for that reason, to test themselves. So they would always like wars in order to make men into "real men".

8. well, i think joseph cambell would agree with you.
i think his theory was pretty much that the problem with modern america is the there is no ritual passage into adulthood, for boys or for girls. that leaves them lurching around for death defying stunts to prove themselves. like smoking cigarettes. taking drugs. drinking. drive fast cars.
i kinda understand that. as sentient beings, aware of our mortality, we have to affirmatively decide to ignore it in order to function.

6. Thank you for a great laugh!
As a socialist, a child of a socialist, elected to leadership in a socialist youth organization ... what a HOOT!

Ownership of the means of production is the American dream, but this is why my bachelors is joint Poli Sci & Economics. I undestand Volker, Friedman, Bernanke - and beat 'em at their own game without compromising any of my principles.

Thanks for an entertaining interlude as I enjoy my weekend.

14. Since when did 'greatness of the human spirit' ='I'm all right Jack and the devil take the hindmost"
He seems to have heard Tom Paxton's satirical song about Republicans, "A Truly Needy Family of Your Own", and taken it literally as a guide to the best in human feeling:

"For success alone is not enough to make a life complete;
It's seeing the other guy fail that makes it all so sweet!"

Thanks for reminding me why I'm a socialist.

16. This is my analogy of the wall.
You want to climb the wall. It's lined with the average worker. You tell them you want to climb the wall so they form a human pyramid. You climb up on their backs and tell them that you will pull them up. When you get to the top, they reach out their hands. You say "Haha, I got to the top on my own, now you pull yourselves up"

These people make me sick.

17. Well, he doesn't share DNA with me
I'm hardly pond scum!

Funny, but universal health care, while it offers pillows does not hinder anyone ability to climb this "ladder" or what not.

I think he or she forgets universal greed and ego are a strong motivators. So long has human nature posses those, ladders will exist.

I'd also point out, there will always be plenty of ladders for people to fall off of because this is called LIFE, and in life, and because it is such, they probably will not have pillows.

There is plenty of bruises to go around Mister. Plenty of tragedy to create scars, in case he was worried. I would remind him there is still Plenty of drugs, Wars, Death and Hunger, plenty of jealously and broken hearts. Everyone will still posses a pair of bootstraps, if they should see fit to pull themselves up even if we've shorten the strap an 1/4 of inch.

I'm not ashamed of my social ideas, I'm neither weak, nor duller or less colorful because of them. There is no crime in being a compassionate person, I want even pillows for your hardened ass because life, loss, and love are often very great adversaries. You will need all the pillows you can get to survive those falls, and often times you won't find any.

20. Nothing like the "Gods and Clods" mentality.
Your value as a person is solely determined by the amount of capital you control. If you control less than me you are inferior.

You want to see the most revealing section of this vomit? Read this and replace the word "socialists" with "capitalists":

"You socialists are so craven that you cringe at the thought of anyone actually succeeding, and hide behind platitudes and feel good language all the while hoping that nobody realizes what weak creatures you really are, and you sit around with a smug air of superiority that deep down you know is a hypocritical lie, and you grow to hate yourselves for it."

That is one of the most deeply rooted cases of projection I have ever seen. Capitalism pushes the platitudes of a meritocracy refined through competition. Those the succeed do so at the expense of others. It "proves" that they are "strong" and others are "weak". This of course fosters a self loathing of those that have actively taken part in the system and have not become "Gods".

The guy that wrote this is probably some middle or lower management nobody just praying that someday his boot-licking will pay off. He's been raised in an environment that lovingly fellates the capitalist ubermensch and pisses on the underlings. He's taken part in this himself and seeing that it has neither gained him wealth nor notoriety he begins to hate himself. Instead using that hate as a reason of reexamine his views though, he turns it outwards and focuses it on what may take away his chance for "redemption". Socialism would take way his only chance to prove that he isn't the loser the world has told him he is. It would take away his only chance to make all his ass kissing and boot-licking pay off. It would take away his only chance to prove that he isn't a clod.

After reading that crap the only thing I really take from it is the thought: Thank God, I will never be that way.

24. My reply...
Interesting how you equate money with glory.

Beyond a certain point, anyone who gets all excited by "amenities" is a preening, pampered peacock.

Go ahead and admit it to yourself, what you really crave is power, the power that money will give you over others. You want to look out at all the beggars on the street and tell yourself how much better a person you are than them.

If you had ever actually fallen off a tall ladder you would not be so quick to sneer at those who would like a little padding underneath. A relative of mine owns his own painting business and fell from a ladder nearly thirty feet in the air a few years ago. He crushed an AC unit and broke several bones in the process, ending up in the hospital for over a week and lost a lot of business from being an invalid.

I don't despise you, I pity you.

So afraid of being shown up that you can’t even respond to a post on your own blog.
