Those Liberal East Coast College Professors! (personal story)
My brother, who lives in the midwest near my parents, called me this a.m. to complain about FISA and some other egregious r-w atrocity. As a side issue, he told me this story.

To understand the story, you need to know I am a university teacher in NJ. My midwestern dad claims he's not a republican and that he's an independent but I think otherwise. He's a real sucker for republican propaganda. He's INTERNALIZED that idiotic line "fight them over there." Anyway, you get the drift.

My brother told me my dad got some Republican letter from Jim DeMint, a senator in SC. Now why a SC senator is writing some guy in the midwest is beyond me but maybe he plays a role in GOP fund raising or some other such reason. It had something to do with the "Leadership Institute" which is a r-w organization trying to influence campuses with republican propaganda.

The letter deplored the liberals in higher education and said an English teacher at Montclair State University in NJ told her students in class that conservatives champion racism and promote never-ending war. My dad read the letter and asked my brother, "Do you think he's talking about your sister?"

LOLOLOL.

My brother said, "No, she's telling her students that at (where I teach) University, not Montclair."

1. LOL!
That's great! Well, if the shoe fits... It appears to be the truth. I guess that's what happens when liberals choose to be the more educated demographic. They run amok at the institutions of higher education and actually take advantage of their First Amendment rights. I'm sure the "professors" at Regency "University" feel free to disparage liberals with whatever lie they can come up with.

3. my technique is a little more subtle
Really, I would never say anything so obvious to my students. I keep them guessing about my political affiliation. The story still cracks me up.

Here's my technique. I will do class activities like a group symposium on problems with imported products from China or something that's in the news right now, like mining regulations.

Then I will divide the groups into smaller subject areas like researching funding for the FDA, who's in charge of the FDA, etc. Or if mining regulation violations are fined (yeah, but the gov't never collects the money) or who appointed Mr. Stickler.

My college students figure it out themselves from there.

4. Do you know that Sticker was given a recess appointment in 2006?
And that recess appointments expire at the end of the Congress in session at the time of the appointment? In this case it was the 109th Congress and the 110th start in January 2007.

5. Good Point! Imagine being so piss poor that a rethug Congress wouldn't
confirm the appointment! What's he doing still there in that job?
