First I want to say "Thank you" to all of the people who have already donated this quarter, and to all of our monthly subscribers. Your generosity helps make this website possible.

By now you have probably noticed that this week is our third quarter 2007 fund drive. As usual, our goal is 1000 donations in one week. At this point we're on track to make our goal on time (thanks, again) and the "boxing glove" has already punched John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Rudy Giuliani. Only one conservative idiot left to punch.

Friday is typically one of our best days during fund-drive weeks, and we're hoping today will be no exception. If you have been planning to donate all week, but you keep putting it off, RIGHT NOW is a good time to finally donate to DU. If you're like me then if you don't do it now while you're thinking about it, there's a chance you might get distracted by something else and forget.

And rightly so, because there is so much great stuff here on Democratic Underground to distract you. Where else can you find so many smart, funny, and passionate progressives in one place? Where else can you bypass the conservative big media filter and get the real news about what is happening across the country and around the world? What other website can make you happy, excited, fascinated, informed, concerned, and even frustrated or angry, all in the space of 15 minutes? I've said many times before: There really isn't any other website quite like Democratic Underground. And that is why we all keep coming back.

So please take a moment to donate to DU. It only takes a couple minutes, and it'll make you feel good that you are helping support the place that means so much to all of us.

By the way, I know some people were wondering: No, you are not required to post a sticky when you donate. You can save your "sticky credit" and use it later, or you don't have to use it at all if you don't want to. (But if you do, be sure to post your sticky before noon on Monday, August 20, so you will be eligible to win free stuff in our Golden Sticky contest.)

4. I wish I could afford to donate but supporting 3 on SSDI isn't leaving much left over

plus on top of that FIA demands my disabled SO to go to Work First or we lose her food stamps. Never mind the fact that SO is waiting for the results of her SSI hearing or the fact that her doctors don't want her doing house work or shopping or the fact that SO isn't allowed to drive because of the medications shes on. Michigan jerk off Rehab has declared shes able to work. God how I wiish they would get rid of that agency. These are the same assholes that told me that they wouldn't help me get into the Car repair work, it invovled to much standing walking lifting bending for me to handle. So what was their great ideal? You got it, send me to work as a janator. Sorry for the rant, but its been very trying lately.

I've been a DU die hard for years now. It was one of those things that I'd check all through the day. At work, at home. On vacation. But I have to admit things have changed for me lately, and it's not DU's fault. I know that. But when the Dems caved in on the FISA thing, the wind got taken out of my sails. The last couple of weeks I've taken a bit of a hiatus from all things political. Sure, I've done the occasional drive-by of DU, like right now, but nothing like before where I could spend tons of time here.

I'm depressed, and worn out. I've always been an optimistic person, but man...I thought it was bad enough when the Repubs were screwing us, but to have the Dems give them the green light...*sigh* I'm just sitting here shaking my head thinking about it. The FISA thing was a big one for me. A line in the sand. A put up or shut up moment. And they failed. They couldn't fucking stand up to a President that has a 30% approval rating. Unbelievable.

Like I say, I know it's not DU's fault. Of course it's not. I'll give to DU again. I know I will. But in my current mood, I just can't bring myself to do it.

I love all the people here. I love the community. I think it's a fantastic website. But when you're teetering on this level of depression....

my damn body has been traitorous all last year, from bad knees, to an eye infection, to being set up for unnecessary surgery to fix a hernia that turned out to be something else, the stress alone from walking away from an operating table 20 minutes before going under, after flying to another Island in Hawaii to "not" do it blew my mind, then to have the same continuing symptoms, and with no "cure"..

Been a bad, bad year. I hate getting older, walking around putrifying while still Alive :)

Even selling my beloved old classic car (a beater) to get by - I'll have to cover it in DU bumper stickers collected over the years before someone else drives it off..

Almost wish I hadn't spent all that money fighting those Bush bastards, could have kept DU running single handedly for months on what we apparently Wasted..

As soon as we get rolling in the Green again, this will be the first place I'll spend money, you can take that to the bank :)
