3. they don't yet, reporter saying it might be rescue workers but they don't know
for sure. Of course it would be nice if they waited until they had something confirmed before they went on the air with it.

11. A producer says a FOURTH ambulance is on the way, and a medical helo in the air.
All unconfirmed.

The guy reporting is two miles away--he's getting everything third hand too.

They are "in an emergency situation and need to keep the lines open."

17. They seem to have a better grasp of facts on the ground, frankly.
They also have a better subject matter expert. CNN has a reporter two miles away, and not much else.

25. CNN says there was a "seismic bump"
It's assumed that it's due to the large pressure from the sandstone.

My heart is breaking for the workers and their families right now.

28. thanks for the clarification. I just turned CNN on and I have a lot of catching up to do
in fact, I'm not even use to hearing the word "seismic" outside of earthquake conversations. This is completely out of my realm.

If one collapse can cause seismic bumps (which sounds awful btw) then does that make the other mines weaker? It seems like it would.

31. well what they're (cnn) has been saying is that when the coal is removed
"it weakens the roof" causing collapse. This mine actually does that type of mining--retreat mining and thats how the original collapse a week happened and now it's happening during the rescue.

Second Collapse at Utah Mine
Report: One Dead, 4 Injured
WPVI

August 16, 2007 - ABC News affiliate KTVX reports one killed, four injured in a second collapse at the Crandall Canyon Mine in Utah.

edit to add re: bump from article

According to ABC 4 in Utah, Castleview Hospital in Price has confirmed there has been another collapse at the Crandall Canyon Mine.

An unidentified official at that hospital says there was a "mountain bump" inside the mine. A bump commonly refers to pressure inside the mine that shoots coal from the walls with great force.
