From NBC's Mark Murray

A new poll of likely Democratic Iowa caucus-goers -- sponsored by the nonpartisan
anti-global poverty ONE coalition -- shows Edwards leading with 30%, followed by
Clinton at 22%, Obama at 18%, and Richardson at 13%.

The survey, conducted by Peter D. Hart Research Associates (D) and McLaughlin &
Associates (R), has a margin of error of plus-minus 4.3 percentage points.

Edwards: I'm the best to bring change

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/default.aspx

From NBC's Andrew Merten

While visiting the Iowa state fair in Des Moines today, Edwards was asked by a reporter
whether or not he agreed with Karl Rove's assessment of Clinton as a "fatally flawed candidate."

Edwards dodged the question, a bit, saying, "I agree with almost nothing that Karl Rove says."

A reporter then asked if he agrees if Obama is the best candidate to bring the country together,
to which he replied, "I will be the best candidate to bring the changes this country needs."

After meeting with reporters, the former senator autographed everything from campaign signs
and newspapers to baseballs. He also followed in the steps of Clinton and indulged in some
state fair food, opting for chicken on a stick.

6. I may have to go with him
Don't like Hillary.

Obama's mentorship by Lieberman worries me.

And Richardson's loose lips and possible bigotry are also a problem.

Looking more and more like Edwards is my guy.

8. He is my second choice.
Waaaaaaaaaay after Kucinich.

I'd have no problem voting for him in the GE though.

Can't say that about Clinton or Obama.

9. A much better answer than Obama had.
No candidate will unite the country, it was wrong when Bush said it, and it's wrong for Obama as well. Conservatives are going to bitch and moan the whole time no matter how we govern. Hell, Clinton was practically a liberal Republican, and they rabidly attacked him from the very beginning of his Presidency. Don't tell me that you're going to unite me with a group of people who still believe in the divine right of Kings. Tell me that you are going to solve the problems facing the country, even over the objections of the aristocrat class.

12. Good answer
I like Edwards. The only time I don't is when he snips at other Democrats.

Is Iowa the first to vote again this time? I hope so and I hope the momentum in Iowa will help him swing ahead! Go Edwards!! :bounce:

13. Bubble Burst time...sorry
Taht a prtty big MOE and indivates a small sample size....plist It is at least interestin that the group sponsoring the poll would seem to be aligned with Edwards teriffice clarion call to do something about Poverty.

Yet having sad that Peter Hart is pretty well respected.

given the last polll has a three way tie....I find this result dubious and probably an outlier. We will see what the next poll says.

15. Right and...????
Edited on Thu Aug-16-07 07:38 PM by Perky
Just ssaying that large an MOE means a small sample...

I would also question why an organization focused on poverty would be wasting what one can logically assume is charity dollars on a poll in Iowa five months out... Couldn't those dollars be better spent on I dunno....feeding a few hundred people?

Again I am not knocking the candidate I am just saying the poll is dubious and probably an outlier.

17. the only poll to show a three way tie is more likely the outlier
many polls have shown Edwards in the lead, only one showed a three way tie.

between Dennis and John the progressive agenda still stands a chance. Hillary will have Tata outsourcing jobs just as soon as she gets in; DK and JE will hit the ground running.

Besides, M$M already has annointed Hillary the nominee. GOP wants that matchup. I'd really prefer DK but I'm backing the progressive who's showing highest in the polls !

Edwards leads in latest Iowa poll

http://www.boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2007/08/edwards_leads_i.html

Democrat John Edwards is banking on Iowa to boost his nomination hopes -- as it did four years ago
-- and a new poll out today gives him more hope that he might just be on the right track.

The former US senator from North Carolina led among likely Iowa caucus-goers surveyed with 30
percent, compared to 22 percent for Senator Hillary Clinton of New York, 18 percent for Senator
Barack Obama of Illinois, and 13 percent for New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson.

Edwards parlayed a second-place finish in Iowa in 2004 to national prominence, and a place on
the ticket as John Kerry's running mate. This year, he is spending far more time and money in
Iowa, the first caucus state, than in New Hampshire, the first primary state.

The poll released today was conducted on Aug. 2 and 3 of 509 past Democratic caucus attendees
or those who say they are likely to attend the caucus. It has a margin of error of plus or minus
4.3 percentage points.

Peter D. Hart Research Associates, a respected Democratic polling firm, conducted the survey for
the ONE Campaign, a nonpartisan group that is pushing presidential candidates to address global poverty.

Among other poll findings, 98 percent said America's standing in the world has suffered in recent years,
and 91 percent said they were dissatisfied with the role the United States plays in the world.
