7. I'll never understand that
Money really trumps life in the US. Once they're a Tropical Storm or hurricane warning in the English-speaking Caribbean, no company can dock our pay for absence. No one goes to work when a storm is approaching except the essential services.

8. We're not very Irie.
;-)

But to be fair, the US mainland is quite different from a small island with somewhat limited alternatives geographically I mean.

I've seen some scary flooding in Jamaica too...we frequently go to the Westmoreland area (Sav. La Mar) :D

9. True
It's worse in Japan - people go to work during typhoons. Which reminds me Taiwan is about to get hit for the 3rd time this year - 160mph this time.
We shouldn't fret with a Cat 2 or three when others are facing four and five.

I love Sav, particularly 'old' Negril. They've messed that up as well with too much commercialization.

6. floods in Houston...
You would not believe how fast a road in the Houston area floods during one of our rains... unbelievable. And just as fast, it will drain off WHEN it quits raining. We've barely had a week of dry weather and this latest non-stop rain has NO place to go.

However, it's unbelievable how many people still drive into flooded roads anyway when they know better. o well. :eyes:

4. It happens all the time here in Tallahassee.
People here drive shittily anyway, but they save their worst for the rain. Ten minutes or less into any rain storm you can hear the sirens.
