SNOW Going To Go - Signals His Resignation (Plus A Couple More Next Month)
Tony Snow Signals His Resignation, Plus ‘A Couple’ More ‘Coming Up In The Next Month’

After the recent resignation of Karl Rove, media outlets speculated on what the rest of President Bush’s term will look like without “the Architect.” The President is “fighting lame duck status,” reported the AP. In response, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow shot back: “As the president has said many times, he’s going to sprint to the tape.”

But even Tony Snow doesn’t want to be around for that sprint. In an interview with the conservative Hugh Hewitt show, Snow signaled that he will not stay until the end of the term. He also mentioned that there are “probably a couple” of other high-level resignations “coming up in the next month or so.”

HEWITT: Are there any other resignations upcoming, Tony Snow?

SNOW: I think that probably…as Josh said the other day, he thinks there are probably a couple coming up in the next month or so. <…>

HEWITT: Your intention to go the distance, Tony Snow?

SNOW: No, I’m not going to be…I’ve already made it clear I’m not going to be able to go the distance, but that’s primarily for financial reasons. I’ve told people when my money runs out, then I’ve got to go.

43. I wish him the opportunity to die heroically in Iraq.
Am I a dick for saying that? Maybe, but Tony Snow's chances of dying peacefully and at home are excellent, while he has devoted the past couple of years to making sure that kids half his age don't have anything close to the odds he has.

Do they not pay the press secretary? I thought it would be more of medical reasons, oh well I don't care, the more that leave the easier it will be to limit B*sh and his crazy agendas.

15. Snow's not making near the bucks he did at Faux
Edited on Thu Aug-16-07 12:50 PM by Gman
Consider the prez makes $200K/yr. Snow's likely at most half that compared to at least a million a year at Faux. No one takes these jobs for the money. THey do it for their resume, or simply for the privilege of doing it.

23. Yeah, Clinton made it $400K/year before he left office.
If he were doing his job I would say thats an adequate amount but...well...he isn't. He should be paying us.

29. Bush makes $400,000.
The Presidential salary was raised during Clinton's second term from $200,000 to $400,000, but didn't take effect until Bush got into office in 2001. Cheney makes $208,100 -- plus deferred salary from Haliburton of about $195,000 per year, and stock dividends.

The most recent figures I've seen put the press secretary (and other top senior advisors) at $161,000. That was for 2005, and has probably been raised. At one point a few years ago it was $154,000 and then $157,000, so it's probably between $165-$170,000.

12. What an odd comment
"I’ve already made it clear I’m not going to be able to go the distance, but that’s primarily for financial reasons. I’ve told people when my money runs out, then I’ve got to go."

Does Tony Snow work for free? Doesn't his high exposure position enable him to land cushy speaking gigs that net him a small fortune?

I don't get this comment at all.

17. A Rare Moment Of Clarity...
...when my money runs out, then I’ve got to go.

Finally some honesty from Tony Balogna...and good for him. He knows he's on borrowed time and is gonna cash in and at least not leave his family taken care of. I also think this job has to be a lot more draining than even he shows...every day its one scandal after the next...there's only so much even a pathological liar can handle.

Adios Tony...you're weren't as amusing as Snotty...and who knows, maybe we'll get an Atwater confession from him yet.

And that's what is happening with the Bush Administration. They all know the sh!t is going to hit the fan, and they've decided to get while the getting's good.

Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people. :sarcasm:

28. "when my money runs out." Now there's something they never gave
civil servants any credit for. They knew how to sacrifice and live austere lives. And many thrived on the idea that they loved their jobs. And the Repubicans had the audacity to destroy them, because they were not greedy enough and they tended to vote Democratically.

But I will also say that I wish Tony Snow well in his private life and in beating his cancer My sister -in law (my brother's wife) and her mother both have cancer presently (lung and breast respectively), and I wouldn't wish it on anyone (with the possible exception of Dick Cheney-if he developed rectal cancer then we would know that there is such a thing as divine retribution!!) I know how devastating cancer can be.
