1. I could be wrong, but at this point, after all I've read and the way
'our government' stole his mind through torture, I feel nothing but sympathy for this guy.

The U.S. government has become what it claims to hold in contempt.

3. I wonder if the quick deliberation
by the Jury is a "good thing" for Padilla or a "bad thing"? Any legal minds want to way in with what the speed of this deliberation might mean?

Not a judgment...all I know is what I've read, which may or may not be accurate...but I would bet on the two words that are going through his mind right now and I will not type them.

14. Quick deliberations are usually, usually good for defendants.
I haven't been following how quick this one was.

15. It doesn't matter whether he is guilty or innocent
The fact he was tried in open court is a victory. Celebrate that. I think it was Padilla's lawyer who characterized the irony of his case before the Supreme Court; he said he was probably the first person in American history to go to court to plea that his client should be indicted.

16. Thanks for that reminder; we'd all do well to remember that either
way, this is a step in the right direction.

8. Regardless what the jury form reads, a defendant must be accorded due process of law to be guilty.
A conviction reached by depriving a defendant of Constitutional due process of law is invalid.
