Freepers Mourn the Demise of "1/2 Hour News Hour"
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1881466/posts#comment?q=1

Just to answer the question "who the hell would watch that crap?" Why, Freepers apparently! Although even a lot of them admit it sucked, LOL. PS: WTF is "Ice Truckers?"

Too bad. I enjoyed that show, thought I didn’t get to watch it the last few weeks because my husband wanted to watch “Ice Truckers” on another station. I would have liked to have seen it on at an earlier time.

=============================

I thought it was hilarious!

=============================

Loved the Limbaugh as president stuff though. Should have put more of that in.

=============================

Holy crap! That was my favorite show ever.

3. I don't know what "Ice Truckers" is about ...
... but at first glance, it seems like it might be a little too high brow for me.

4. Its a reality show on Discovery Channel.
http://www.history.com/minisites/iceroadtruckers

The History Channel embarks upon an unparalleled adventure revealing the virtually unknown occupation of ice road trucking, considered to be one of the world's most dangerous jobs. ICE ROAD TRUCKERS charts two months in the lives of six extraordinary men who haul vital supplies to diamond mines over frozen lakes that double as roads. The livelihood of many depends on these tenuous roads, which through the years have been responsible for the deaths of dozens of men.

Always prepared for the ice to give way under the weight of their trucks, these drivers put their lives and financial security of their families on the line in an exhilarating dash for cash. Beginning Sunday, June 17 at 10pm ET/PT, this adrenaline packed series reveals the raw, gripping quest of ice road truckers.

The desolate white landscape stretches as far as the eye can see in a world where the land meets the sky at an invisible horizon, just miles from the Arctic Circle. The fascinating, yet little-known ice road trucking industry, stationed just outside of Yellowknife in Canada's Northwest Territory, is responsible for supporting the diamond mines there. Canada now stands as the third largest diamond producer in the world, housing an industry that rakes in $1.9 billion a year.

Each year, the many lakes of this region completely freeze over and engineers build an ice road over them that can withstand the weight of tractor trailers, hopefully. Jackknifing, breakdowns and accidents are commonplace. Last year, because of the effects of global warming, the ice road was closed early, leaving hundreds of tons of supplies stuck at the dispatch station. Since the terrain in this region is virtually impenetrable, and there are so few paved roads, the only way for supplies to reach the mines is by traveling over the ice road. The entire industry depends on the weather and the courage of the ice road truckers, who are willing to push themselves to the limit and who constantly hear the cracking of the ice right beneath their wheels.

5. it's about truckers who drive over mostly 'paved' ice during the winter.
starting near the Arctic Circle, then north to some oil producing site (Prudhoe Bay?)

it's on History Channel, I think

I watched the first show, but I found EVERY trucker to be so unlikable, so unbearably macho, that I couldn't watch it after the first episode, even though I found the subject matter initially interesting from a technical standpoint

just horrible horrible people thoughout. and you can be just about certain they're all VERY conservabotic

17. Not oil producing...the road goes to the DeBeers Diamond Mine.....
and since I'm EXTREMELY fond of the DeBeers Company :sarcasm: , I hope each and every truck falls through the ice. :grr:

7. I saw one Ice Trucker episode on Discovery
The one show was interesting just to see what the road and the trip was like. But to have a complete series of stories of these trucks making the trip would be just mindnumbingly boring I would think.

Edited on Thu Aug-16-07 01:41 AM by nam78_two
:shrug:? What gives?
I am genuinely astonished that it lasted this long. I watched the pilot-made getting teeth pulled seem pleasant by comparison :eyes:.
Conservatives trying to be funny-that is some scary stuff.

22. Actually it got very good ratings and they're going to make more
shows. And it's on the History Channel, not Discovery. I've had it on when I've been surfing the net. It's kinda interesting, but I don't understand why these suceed. It's like the show about the crab fisherman. Helluva dangerous job but why do people want to watch this week after week?

16. Hey, now, Hee Haw was a great show
I honestly think most of the humor in Hee Haw would go over most freepers' heads, as it relied on a lot of corny puns that require at least a passing familiarity with the English language. Freepers like visual, easy-to-digest slapstick (like videos of people getting hit in the nuts), and there wasn't much of that on Hee Haw.

Hee Haw also featured a lot of politically liberal musical guests, like Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard.

20. Wow! Such bigotry!
You think rural humor is automatically stupid.

There was nothing political about Hee Haw. It was just corny - literally - but I know a lot of otherwise intelligent people who enjoyed it, particularly people who grew up in rural areas.

24. True Story
When I was a little girl in the 70s (before cable TV, in rural East TX) they would show Hee Haw, then follow it with Soul Train (which is what I wanted to watch), so I found myself watching Hee Haw to get to Soul Train. :rofl:

How else would I know the corny jokes? BR549!

9. Poor, poor persecuted Freepers
i’m sorry to see this. the show is funny. but you are right, it
should be on fox entertainment. back in the ‘80’s, a co-worker
and i produced a similar news/comedy parody for cnn but they
rejected it, because they felt it was appropriate
(sic) to mix hard news
and humor. i’ve always regretted that we didn’t try someplace
else but we probably couldn’t have sold it anyway as we were
conservatives.

...or did she mean that, as conservatives, they were too fucking stupid to sell it?

12. Oh brother
Or maybe because conservatives are not funny! To be funny there has to be a little truth in the mix, and they just make shit up.

Classic example in the "comedy skit" of Rush & Ann they were making up headlines (such as Cindy Sheehan goes on a shooting spree) when whatever you think of her, she's not violent or the type to do that at all. They would never make fun of Cheney's real life shoot-friend-in-face-thought-he-was-a-bird thing. Even the part where the friend apologized for getting his face in the way of his bad shooting!

Stewart points out the aburdity that really exists - if you live in a pretend world, you by definition can't do satire.

LOL, then he links the BS Fox Memo....oh they are not too bright.
===============================================

"Looks like the newsman screwed up.

Listen up. The show was NOT CANCELED. It has been put on hiatus for "retooling." So says the official memo from Fox."

Uh, that's canceled, schmuck.

14. Their last show they were down to PAYING for audience members
Some pathetic group called "Los Angeles Republican Association" (and as an Angelino lemme tell ya - that's a small association!)

The Half Hour News Hour and The Los Angeles Republican Alliance has teamed up to enhance the Republican experience in Los Angeles County.

LARA is authorized to compensate conservative audience members $15 for their participation in the taping of the Half Hour News Hour. See schedule below.

If you are a conservative and want to get paid for attending as many show as available you can RSVP here: xxx@xxxx.com. Just make sure the email has the words "LARA RSVP" and the date of the show you are interested in attending, in the subject line. Please provide your mailing address for your check and pay attention to the deadline.

18. OMG, that's hilarious.
The comedy show so bad they had to pay people $15 a pop to sit in the audience. They call that "enhancing the Republican experience"?

I'm sure that whoever was getting paid to sit there "laughed" long and hard at every single "joke."
