Check out this billboard in NYC!
The Catholic League is pissed. :P

This is on Manhattan Mini-Storage, right alongside the west side highway (you can't miss it)-

http://www.nypress.com/blogx/display_blog.cfm?bid=372124

snip>

The ad is part of a ballsy print campaign that takes jabs at the Bush administration with such gems as “Your closet’s scarier than Bush’s agenda” and “Your closet is so narrow it makes Cheney look liberal.”
---

Past billboards have featured head-turning zingers like “Your closet's so shallow, it makes Paris look deep,” and “Don't make us send 5 queer guys to your place.” >>

I saw a clip on the local news- everyone liked it, and it was on FOX!

6. Ahhhh...FREEDOM TO SPEAK ONE'S MIND!!!...
the very backbone of a truly free society...and the Catholic League has the same right to be as pissed as they want...just don't go hurtin' anybody, or callin' for any "they can't do that" legislation.

One of the backbones of a democratic republic is the ability to freely express an opinion...and to engage in open debate.

:woohoo:

8. That is Awesome! I know they like to post ads that grab your
attention, but some of them have been kind of tasteless. That one makes a great political statement.

Who cares what the catholic league thinks!

56. I used to love the ones that said "Bad Things Happen When
You Leave The City" but a lot of people in the suburbs complained about them (they had pictures of nude senior citizens lying around in lawn chairs, or "redneck" types hanging out in a driveway with beer and boomboxes, etc...). I thought they were pretty amusing. :)

in a way that speech by individuals is not. Awesome!

21. I don't think you follow my point.
It seems like the billboard is written with the idea that a man will be reading it, rather than a woman (which would be more probable in the NY area, no?).

I would think that storage units are rented more often by men than by women.

27. I think they're working on the sliver of population that isn't pro-choice
If I saw the billboard in upstate PA I might take it as "give your lil lady the gift of choice" (like a DeBeers commercial meets "Real Men Don't Use Porn"), but in a bastion of gurl power "*your* right to choose" might be excessively preachy to the choir. For context's sake it also follows in the heels of other 3rd-person ad campaigns:

30. I think it's just assuming a default customer perspective
The prospective storage customer is the person being addressed, whether male or female. Forgive what might be my overreaction, but I think this is why Dems lose elections to morans like Bush...someone comes out with a message that would appear to support "our side", and we immediately rush to find fault with it. "Sure, he's vegan...but he's not vegan ENOUGH."

42. This is brilliant!
They are not only expressing their point of view, but they are reaching out to a large portion of the public. Its about time that the business world realizes that Liberals spend money too! I'd love to know how their advertising affected their business. I'm assuming it was positive, as they continue to advertise this way.
