I'm sooo excited!! Really, I am!

:woohoo: :woohoo:

My son just got home from his part-time job, after working an 8 hour shift and
during the course of the day he was working with another kid named Kevin.
My son said he'd never met Kevin before but had seen him at work from time to time.

Mind you, my son graduated high school in June with an electrical apprentice certificate
and a HS diploma and soon after, he applied for a job with a Union Electrical Company that
is huge in my state. Very well known. They have a good rep and all that, so anyway when
they called him back in June and they took his info. and requested that he call them in
a couple of months for the next training class. It's approaching the time to call back now
and I've been reminding him to call them. But he's been putting it off or stalling. Not sure.

So, anyway, he gets to discussing college and jobs and the future with Kevin, age 16.
So at the end of the conversation my son tells him that he had applied at the above
company for a job and the kid says, "You're kidding me, right? You want to work there?"
My son says, "Yeah I do! They're a good company with great benefits!" So Kevin says,
"Well, do you know my last name?" My son says, "No" and Kevin says, "Well, I'm the son
of the owner of that company. Do you want me to tell him that you applied and that you
want a job there?" My son says, "YES!!!! As long as your Dad won't mind!"

LMAO!! .

So, that's why I'm soooo excited and if this kid follows through, maybe just maybe my
son will be fulfilling his dream and soon!! I asked him why he still hadn't called them
yet and he said that the Human Resource woman he spoke to said to call in late August,
so... maybe this will be the catalyst!! Yippee!! My kid is networking!!

This could mean big changes in his life but my life too!! :)

Now I'll return you to your previous show! ;)

5. That's exactly it!
The right place at the tight time! Hopefully! :)
I think he could get the job on his own but every little bit helps!
Doesn't hurt to network, in fact, employment counselors encourage it!

Thanks! :)

7. What? You think the kid at 16 can work in that field?
He's a junior in high school still and I'm guessing that Kevin either chose
not to work with his Dad yet or his Dad wanted him to learn to deal with the
public first and learn the ropes of business. It's good experience. ;) And I
don't doubt that Kevin is telling the truth. I'd already heard that the kid
of owner of that Electrical Company was working at the local grocery store.
Not all parents gift wrap life for their kids! Some make them work for it!

14. Growing up, my best friend's Dad
was a multimillionaire, we weren't. but our families were very close and no special treatment went to his kids. My friend enlisted in the Army and has had to build his own life.

It does happen.

6. Good for him!
The interest shown by the Human Resources department probably meant that your son was going to get the job based on his merits, of course a little extra push by the boss won't hurt. This is something known as serendipity; an unplanned event that brings good fortune.

10. Serendipity! I like it!
:)

I hope he does get hired but you're right! A little extra push can't hurt! ;)
Hey Graybeard, do remember me telling you about my older two sons applying
for a job and one got hired? And I was waiting to hear if the other one got
the job? Well, he did!! He started two weeks after my oldest one and now they
commute to work together daily!! It all worked out! You were right! :)

22. My best friend owns the company that does
all my employer's work, they are down to earth people, (grounded so to speak, if you will pardon the pun) very smart, and they take care of each other. Safety is paramount and no short cuts ever save money.

I design installation now, but I have done the install job myself for many years. It's a good life, you meet a lot of different people, see a lot of different ways to skin a cat, so to speak. He will learn a lot about mechanical as well as electrical, eventually becoming completely proficient in all forms of mechanical and home improvement tasks, self sufficient and independent. It is a knowledge I consider invaluable and respectable as those with it will not be without a lifelong skill.

My friend has his own son and one of his senior men's son apprenticing with them this year, and if you boy is in that group to begin with, he will do fine.

I would be very happy too.:applause:

23. I very much appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience.
I was sort of frowned at when I announced that I had decided to send my son to a trade school.
My thinking was, with all the outsourcing, that he would have a viable skill, that could not
be outsourced and that would serve him well, as long as he chose to stick with it. He chose
the electrical practicum though, not me. I think he has the right personality for this type
of work and he is eager to be an electrician and he's easy going and willing to learn! He's
always so proud of himself, like when the senior class of 20, built and wired a service garage
for the school's town DPW. It was a senior project and they did very well. ;) This company has
a training center about 2 miles from where we live, and the actual business is a few miles in
the other direction, so that will make it easier too, for him to transition, I think.
Thank You for your encouragement and knowledge. I think now, I made the right decision for him.
That gives me great peace! Thanks! ;) You made me feel better!
