I just saw the strangest News story Teaser; "Stolen computers mean children FORCED to play outside"
Just now on the Fort Myers NBC affiliate, one of those location spots where the reporter, standing in front of a Boys & Girls Club facility with children clearly running around and screaming gleefully in the background, in an oh-so-serious tone, says something like this;

"A thief has ruined the day for these children as they are forced to play outside instead of inside, on their computers"

OK, since the teaser, the story has run and apparently a thief, a person who knew precisely where to look, broke in and took 8 laptops the kids used for schoolwork.

This strikes me as really odd. Of course, on the one hand there is the theft of donated computers that the kids will need for the coming school year.
On the other hand, the reporter made it sound as if the kids were shoved out the door by force in order to play tag, duck, duck, goose and kickball!

Like i said above, the kids were all laughing and having a blast outside.
Am i missing something? Is it so damned horrible that 8 and 9 year olds are playing outside instead of being on the internet?

Man, am I OLD!

1. Well, I have to force my 14 year old to quit playing video games
and go outside and play. Once he's there, he has fun - but MAN talk about torture to get him there!

2. Maybe in 110 degree heat it could be considered torture, but
I know what you mean.

5. Yeah, it is hot here this time of year, but it ain't Phoenix!
It wasn't too bad today, actually. Last few weeks though the humidity at times has made it feel like a sauna outside but not so this afternoon. It often gets 90 degrees and 85% humidity here in the Summer.

The story just struck me as amusing.

We went swimming in the river, of course that would be considered child neglect today. When it was hot my friends and I got our fishing poles and went down to the river and fished and waded all day. We went skinny dipping both boys and girls together. Just think of the riot that would bring today if it were on the MSM!

13. I made my kids play outside in their winter coats
I told 'em that it would make them hardy and knock a few pounds off to boot.

Here I sit 11 miles north of Fort Worth and the thermometer is reading 104.6°. We hit 105.5° 20 minutes ago.

I love my Davis Instruments Weather Station!

Now where did those kids get off to?

4. I think the kids would prefer to be outside (unless it's too hot of course)
It's a heck of a lot better for them anyway.

15. LOL.. The tone of the reporters voice on the teaser was "Can YOU IMAGINE such a thing?"
"Children...ACTUALLY PLAYING OUTSIDE?!? Oh the humanity! We havent seen this sort of thing for years!"
Meanwhile, the counselors are monitoring the kids having an absolute blast.

It was horrible, i tells ya
