So I think I'm quite happy with my new Internet connection
I moved to the boonies recently, and my choice for internet seemed to be 1) dial-up, 2) DSL, or 3) satellite.

Well, I only have a cell phone, so I dont' want to spend $40 a month for a line to call an ISP for another $10 a month. Getting DSL is about the same thing, except DSL is a lot faster and a little more expensive. And when my ex-girlfriend got it, it worked horribly. And I live in an apartment where they do not take kindly to satellite dishes. So, I went with 4) Sprint broadband.

I spend the extra money and got the USB modem (it's the size of a Nutri-Grain bar), so I can use it on my desktop or laptop. I got it today, got it working about 90 minutes ago after work, and so far it's great. The DU loads as fast as my Charter cable did, it hasn't crapped out once yet (unlike Charter), and I can bring it pretty much anywhere in the country. All for $60 a month.

It was a long 4 days without the DU, but I'm home now, and wireless!

Now I have to work on getting some sort of FM transmitter for my laptop so I can stream Air America and broadcast it to my work...

With stuff like this, cable internet for private use may soon be a thing of the past!

1. On-line gaming is where any wireless connection lets you down.
Other than that, it is great.

2. Ah, didn't know that
I'm not a gamer, fortunately. I'm a DU-aholic, or something like that... :-)

3. Are you limited to areas that you have cell phone service?
I am looking to move to a town which has no cell phone service and the only internet provider that I am aware of is satellite.

If sprint could offer high speed internet anywhere in the US that would be great.

4. I believe so. but I have a nice strong single where I am
I'm by a reasonably important state highway, so that might be why. You might need to look at a Sprint/Nextel coverage map.

You can try the website, but I don't have much hope for it. I tried three times to buy the broadband access online, but the site kept trying to sell me a phone instead!!!!

7. It does work off of cell towers. I have the same Sprint high spped
aircard - same price....in CT. I absolutely love it. Free to be anywhere. Also have AT&T DSL which I barely use now. I'm so ticked at AT&T.....last March 19th when they changed from SBC to AT&T it ruined my access to Outlook Express....I've not been able to get it back working.

At work, they pay for a Verizon aircard---equally great coverage/speed.
I just had a 'day to work remotely' yesterday and I dialed in while at a restaurant having a nice leisurely breakfast(plug right next to the table)....moved on to a Book store later and worked for hours over a couple cups of coffee(Borders has power plugs all over their Cafe....B&N=No plugs) ---- Later I found a shady, breezy picnic table and worked wireless and powerless, to finish the day. Very nice and relaxing day....had my hair cut, nails done and shopped in the meantime. Roamed the cool AC'd mall while listening to conference calls. I love wireless via Aircard.

11. Sounds very nice indeed
I first heard about it at my aunt's house. She's in the boonies, too, and her only options were satellite or dial-up. But when we went there for a family reunion kind of thing last April, my brother's girlfriend whipped out her laptop, shoved in the Sprint card, and bam high speed internet!

10. Well, that will be an added bonus
But this speed is quite fast enough for me!

I just tested it and got 851 kbaud download and 109 kbaud upload speeds... while file-sharing!

6. We just recently with Sprint, also
and I love having the ability of having more than one browser going at the same time. Sometimes I have 4 or 5 going abd just seitch back and forth--no noticable slow down

9. We had a local broadband
and it worked fine. But MediaCom bought them out and we have had nothing but crap since. We have the highest band and the download is terrible. You keep getting kicked off same as if it was dial up.

We wanted to go to DSL with Qwest. For a couple of dollars less. But were afraid to take it because it might not work either. MediaCom keeps telling us it is our computer. But my other son works with computers he checked out everything and said it is MediaCom they are just slow. Since we live 80 miles from the nearest big town we are also in the boondocks in northern Minnesota. Does anybody have DSL and does it work better.

And when answering questions about our email, MediaCom said it is routed thru ATandT and that in itself frosted me.
