Tere's a panel on cspan now that is discussing solutions to electronic voting problems.
One of the statements just made by one of the attorneys was that the Ca. Secretary of State had "demand" authority so she simply contacted the mfg.s of the machines and DEMANDED the source code. Florida doesn't have that power! In Florida they only have "Please would you give me the source code" authority. He stated that as various states consider what they were going to do, they should realize this is a possible stumbling block.
Does anyone know why there would be such different powers in different States? I realize each State sets it's own laws, I know, but I wouldn't think the "powers of the Sec. of State" would or should differ????
