I never thought anyone could make me feel compassion for Tim Russert
Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 11:36 AM by Redbear
Libby's only chance is for Russert to crack, so they are throwing everything they can at him.

No doubt, he brought a lot of it on himself, but geez that has to be hot in the witness seat right now.

1. Oh fuck him... He brought ALL of this on himself. He's supposed to be a journalist
not a propagandist.

3. Exactly - that's what he GETS for being so damn ACCOMODATING of BushInc all these years.
His reputation should be SHIT, because he was outed as a friendly venue for WH propaganda.

16. That's exactly how I feel. No sympathy for Russert, here...
He's a mouthpiece for this administration and deserves everything that's coming to him...and more!

2. I think of him flashing his Bush/Cheney 2000 button (worn on the inside of his lapel)
What an ass. I have nothing but pure contempt for Mr. Potato Head.

5. Would that be a Russet Potato Head?
Yes, ole timmy showed a lack of balls when dealing with the likes of cheney, who is actually a fucking wuss from way back. He just growls alot and people are sposed to sit up and take notice.

13. Did he, really?
This, alone, should have disqualified him from hosting a political talk show... unless, as the David Brinkley show used to, there is a Democratic counterpart.

20. Yes indeedy he did.
"Russert showed up to a Republican fundraiser a few years ago as the guest of then GE CEO Jack Welch (GE owns NBC, Russert's network). Russert would flash a Bush-Cheney button he wore on the underside of his lapel to the GOP leaders to let them know he was really one of them."

4. Oh, I'm feeling some delicious schadenfreude re: Little Timmy.
As much as he's helping to get the screws put to Libby, I'm thoroughly enjoying him getting raked over the coals by his corporate masters. It's lovely.

8. That's part of what I mean. NBC made him take a stand on principle
and now he is being forced to defend those principles that he himself does not really believe in.

15. I think you have hit on the heart of it ;no real 'inconsistency' other than manufactured by Wells
Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 12:08 PM by emulatorloo
It is just another shiny object designed to confuse the jury

Wells is making such a big deal out of the 'inconsistency" of fighting the supoena after testifying freely to the FBI. I think you are pretty much right -- NBC wanted to put on a big SHOW about journalistic integrety. OR

1. Timmy talked to the FBI w/o realizing that his convo was a big deal in the investigation.

2. Then he found out that it was at the heart of the investigation, and he was in a panic -- "What about my journalistic credibility???? Now I must fight this"

----
P.S. I worry when Arianna goes so "hardball" w Russert. . .Seems pretty much she is feeding lines to the right wing lie machine, who will be launching an attack on Russert ala "Russert isn't a credible witness. Even liberal blogger Arianna Hufffinton blah blanh -- OBVIOUSLY RUSSERT IS LYING And SCOOTER LIBBY IS INNOCENT!!!!!'

I think we see now why it was soooo important to get Cooper and Miller's testimony.

Of course, they don't look like paragons of virtue either, but it is the combination of their testimony along with Fleischer, Martin et al.

Fitz can say, "Look, either all these people are lying or Scooter is. Which is it?"

I have no doubt Fitz will be able to put it all together in closing arguments.

Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 11:40 AM by in_cog_ni_to
I hope it destroys Russert's career, but it won't because he's been doing exactly what his corporate owners want him to do. I hope he suffers dearly for what he's done. Being a mouthpiece for the WH and OVP is shameful and I'm glad he's been exposed.

soul to have a job at a right wing network - especially to sit in front of a camer and do what they do. I am grateful that I don't need a paycheck that requires me to do what they have to do to aid and abet the Republican Party.

I then say a prayer for all the true investigative journalists - especially those who go after crime in government and don't pretend to need the journalists code to avoid the exposure of crimes they have participated in.

This Nation is divided and these employees of those networks helped do it.

Russert is not a decent man.
